The Order of Australia Association Foundation Scholarships help young people continue their studies and match recipients with a member of the Order as a mentor. They are a great example of how people recognised through the Order of Australia keep contributing to the community, supporting others and making an impact. Recently the Governor-General of Australia welcomed the 2024 recipients to Admiralty House to learn about their stories. Government Administration
The Australian Honours and Awards system celebrates people who go above and beyond, making our community a better place.
About us
The Australian Honours and Awards system, administered by the Office of the Official Secretary to the Governor-General, recognises the outstanding service and contributions of Australians. Recipients come from all over the country and from diverse backgrounds, and while some are well-known Australians, the majority are unsung heroes. The Australian Honours and Awards system includes the Order of Australia, meritorious awards, military awards and Australian bravery decorations. While typically recipients haven’t sought thanks or recognition, they deserve both. This page will be used to tell recipients’ stories, highlighting the diverse ways they impact our community. We will also provide guidance about how to nominate someone for recognition in the Order of Australia. This is because while anyone can be recognised in the Order of Australia, no-one can be without being nominated. If you know anyone you think is worthy of recognition, nominate them now at our website.

Karen Noonan OAM was invested at a ceremony at Government House Victoria for outstanding service to community music and through emergency response organisations. When she received the news that she was to be recognised, Ms Noonan thought it was a joke. "‘No, how could it be me?’… and then I looked at the email, and it looked fair dinkum, and then I thought perhaps if someone has gone to the trouble of nominating me, I’m going to have to accept,” she said. A stalwart of the local community in Monbulk, Karen has been involved with a number of volunteer organisations over several decades. A primary school choir teacher since 1989, she has also been closely involved in a wide range of events that promote tourism and bring the local community together. From involvement in the Girl Guides, to the CFA, to community music events – the breadth of Karen’s volunteering service is truly impressive.
