Conversion of electricity to hydrogen creates an #energy loss of roughly 30%. But there are critical steps we can take with technology that already exists today to minimize this energy loss. In fact, #efficient #converters that convert alternating current (#AC) from the grid to direct current (#DC) needed for the #electrolyzers can increase the overall efficiency of the production by roughly 1%. While this may not seem consequential, 1% of the electricity demand in 2050 for hydrogen is enough to power London for almost four years. #Green #Hydrogen
If we want to decarbonize hard-to-abate sectors, such as heavy industry, green hydrogen is going to play a crucial role. Critics of green hydrogen call it a costly and inefficient decarbonization solution, but the technologies to lower the cost and increase the efficiency of green hydrogen already exists. To usher in the era of green hydrogen, we need to produce it efficiently and use it wisely. This means thinking strategically about how, when, and where we produce and consume it. Danfoss offers grid-friendly solutions, meticulously designed, and validated for maximum energy efficiency. Featuring low harmonics and an adjustable power factor, our solutions ensure a cost-effective power supply for your electrolyzer, bolstering your green initiatives. 🔍 One of the most common questions about #electrolysis is: How exactly does it work? Let's break it down for you. The electrolysis process starts with an eco-friendly, chemical-free water treatment, ensuring that only highly purified water is used. This water, powered by electricity from renewable sources, enters our Bosch #PEM electrolysis stack – the core of hydrogen production💚. Inside the stack, an electric current splits the water into #hydrogen and oxygen. The protons move through the central membrane, generating green hydrogen, which is crucial for advancing the #energytransition.
