The first complaint I hear from founders with no sales background? "I don’t like cold outreach because I’m bothering people.” If you feel like you’re “bothering” prospects, you’re too focused on yourself, and trying to convince them. Cold outreach isn’t about you. It’s about educating prospects on the cost of ignoring their problems and showing them the fix. Your solution just happens to be one of those fixes.

If you’re not getting attention from a prospect, 1 of 2 things are happening: 1. Wrong channel. Ex: you’re calling them but they prefer LI DMs. 2. Not a priority. Your best prospects are running successful businesses. They focus on what’s important. If you’re on the right channel, what youre saying isn’t important to them at the moment.

One of the most common mistakes I see -- one that causes prospects who should say "yes" to say "no" -- is to focus the prospecting call on your company when you should be focusing on the value of taking a meeting with you. When you cold call, prospects aren’t deciding to buy—they’re deciding if you’re worth their time. Use 60 seconds to sell them on a 60-minute meeting, not on your product. Focus on addressing their questions and previewing the value of the conversation. 10 ways to completely ruin a cold call… 1. List as many features as possible. 2. Don’t use a script, you tough right? 3. Make sure you pitch slap straight away. 4. Do no research whatsoever and go in blind. 5. Confirm your prospects name at the beginning. 6. Have a hard CTA and ask for time on their calendar. 7. If you’re weak enough to use a script, read it robotically. 8. Use methodologies like BANT to qualify your cold prospect. 9.
