Winded materials naturally generate static electricity during processing. This electrostatic charge becomes a problem as it affects the behaviour of the substrate during handling. These charges also often attract particles to the web material and cause defects in the uniformity of the coating, which can lead to quality problems. Significant static charges can also cause electrical discharge problems for the operator. #Partial discharge (PD) measurement in transformer insulation is a diagnostic technique used to detect and evaluate localized dielectric discharges in the insulating system of a transformer. These discharges occur when the electrical stress in a localized region exceeds the breakdown strength of the insulation but is insufficient to cause a complete electrical breakdown.
