Neurodiversity Toolkit and Guide for Event Planning La Trobe University has a neurodiversity toolkit for event planners, put together by Beth Radulski. While focused on academic events, it's nonetheless applicable to far more than students and visitors. Covering everything from sensory issue to cultural challenges, communication and language, and events both online and off, it's a comprehensive dive into both challenges and potential solutions. If you're an event planner looking to make your next event neurodiversity-friendly, this toolkit might give you some ideas, and perhaps a couple of things to check. https://lnkd.in/gSDjCBaf #diversityequityinclusion #neurodiversity #dei #DEInetwork #australianneurodiversity #diversity #neuroinclusion #neurodiversityawareness #neurodiversityinclusion #eventplanning #eventmanagement #latrobeuniversity

To my higher ed connections (which is practically everyone in some form or fashion): When was the last time you went to a conference and returned with not one but all of these things? - an actionable plan that reflects genuinely new perspectives and ideas - a renewed sense of purpose and mindfulness - a new network of like-minded, trailblazing peers and mentors Maybe it's time to consider The Institute for Higher Education? It's not a conference - by design. https://lnkd.in/gyXs3YqG

Back in Australia today and I was just thinking about how much I love conferences. I think we often approach conferences with the usual checklist in mind: professional development, networking, and knowledge-sharing. These are the predictable pillars of why we attend, the tangible outcomes we can measure. However, I would argue that some of the highest impact lies in the community. The serendipitous chance encounters, reigniting old conversations, cultural exchanges, late nights, and moments of shared purpose. All the stuff that stays with you long after the event ends. The impact of these moments are hard to quantify but perhaps that’s the point. A reminder that progress—personal and professional—is built on shared humanity. On April 5, 2024 I will be at UBC Okanagan in Kelowna, British Columbia, to take part in a conversation with Azim Shariff on "Has Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Lost Its Way?" This is a type of conversation organized and supported by the Heterodox Academy, a unique academic event that pairs two scholarly experts who disagree on a topic in a public discussion of that topic. Not a traditional lecture or debate, these events aim to show that open inquiry, critical thinking, fair mindedness, and constructive disagreement can help us answer questions and solve problems. https://lnkd.in/d_scpKSs
