A Care Map is a visual representation of the supports, community interactions, and social determinants that play a role in a patient's health and well-being. Our Care Map feature, piloted at the Hospital for Sick Children, helps parents coordinate care, identifies parental priorities of care, and improves understanding of what it is like to care for a child with medical complexity. Assisted Dying: Developing the Debate. The issue of assisted dying has again become the focus of impassioned debate, with MPs having a free vote on the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) 2024-25 Bill on Friday. Seven years ago, Professor Peter Beresford OBE, Tina Coldham BEM and I undertook some sensitive research into the debate, interviewing key figures on both sides to see if there was any common ground between them which could provide the basis for more helpful discussion and policy development. We spoke to people from palliative care backgrounds, with others being from organisations concerned with the care and support of older people, disabled people and individuals from academic, social work and policy backgrounds. We found that several areas of common ground emerged when respondents discussed the ethical and ‘existential’ aspects of death and dying, including the psychological aspects of pain, suffering, death and dying for individuals and loved ones, understanding the ‘good death’ and the ‘bad death’ and the role of compassion and values in the debate on legalising assisted dying. Although it was carried out in 2017, much of what we found seems relevant to now. https://lnkd.in/eM4HuAud #AssistedDying #EndOfLife #UKParliamentDebate #PalliativeCare #MedicalEthics #HealthcarePolicy #LegislativeReform
