I applied for my first job because a close friend of mine and I wanted to work together. This first job was a Software engineer at Infosys. There is so much of gyaan giving these days about what are the hot skills you need to pick. Learn this and 2X-3X your salary – says every Youtube or Insta ad ever. Hot skills are exciting and boost employability - fair. But there is surprisingly less thought into the stuff that hugely influence your actions for finding a job. We look for the people we know And hope to join a place where some familiarity exists. Especially in mid-management roles common after MBA, this is what helps in charting out our growth path and trajectory. A friend or ex-colleague recently joined some place. Someone you know from your school, college, is in the place you saw an opening – you will reach out. Or the best thing – someone you know is looking to build a team We often focus on too much intelligence but looking up jobs is hugely influenced by the needs of familiarity. Because familiarity begets Comfort. And this is – Same as Ever. Across ages, across generations. What can you do – Build your network, grow your ecosystem. And if you can, try reading Network theory – Especially the concept of dormant connects in your Network who can radically amplify your reach. Thoughts? Satadru Biswas

Recently, TCS has highlighted a pressing issue: the struggle to fill 80,000 job openings due to a skill gap. This challenge raises an important question: Who bears the responsibility for this gap – the education system, colleges, or the students themselves? Education System: Our education system must evolve to meet the demands of the modern job market. Curriculum updates, practical exposure, and industry collaboration are crucial to equip students with relevant skills. Colleges: Higher education institutions play a pivotal role. By fostering partnerships with industries, offering internships, and emphasizing experiential learning, colleges can bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application. Students: Students must take ownership of their learning. Proactively seeking internships, engaging in continuous learning, and developing soft skills are essential steps to stay competitive in the job market. In reality, it's a shared responsibility. Collaboration between educational institutions, industries, and students is key to addressing this skill gap and ensuring a future-ready workforce. Let's work together to bridge this gap and pave the way for a thriving job market!

Believe me, success and hardships go together and this is the case for all of us 🥹🏠🌻 As a Senior Associate Consultant at Infosys and someone who has done various internships and certifications earlier, I have experienced the highs and lows throughout. Despite the external markers of success, there are times when the internal struggles would just seem insurmountable to me. 😤😓 We often see the polished achievements on LinkedIn, but rarely do we talk about the behind-the-scenes battles we face as professionals. The pressures of deadlines, the stress of constant upskilling, and the ever-present challenge of maintaining a work-life balance can take a toll on anyone, and it has been ’me’ many times. This is where the GoodLives Support Circle has been a game-changer for me. It's more than just a support group; it’s a community where like-minded people can share their experiences, seek advice, and find peace in knowing they are not alone. 🫂🤗💕 You can join this FREE community by just sending an invitation at https://lnkd.in/dpEiHGvn Let’s thrive, not just survive! ✨🔥 #ProfessionalJourney #CareerGrowth #WorkLifeBalance #MentalHealthMatters #CommunitySupport #ThrivenotSurvive

LinkedIn Message - “I have a gap of [X] years in my career. Will I be able to get a job shortlist?” 😓 This is one of the most common questions I receive in my inbox from people who have a career gap. I got placed at Accenture even after having a Non-tech background and a Tier 3 college. Most of us believe that we cannot land a decent paying job if we do not belong to a good college or have a technical degree. During the last year of college, I found myself lost, confused and demotivated like the majority of students. Watch the full video here : https://lnkd.in/gNN8PZE5 Sometimes you will not end up getting your dream college, and you will feel extremely demotivated. But, your degree and college can never decide your future, and you can make it absolutely good by your own efforts. I am not saying that you can get an extremely high paying job but you can still get an entry level job with a decent salary. You can watch the whole video on my channel and it will definitely make you feel better about yourself and placements. #linkedln #placements #Linkedlncreator #college

"It all started from here" 👣 I opened my LinkedIn account in the year 2022. when it was asked in my 1st internship interview at Infosys. Before this interview, I had no idea what LinkedIn was. I had never heard about this platform before. Like every other individual, I had not posted anything for a long time. Then my professors told me to post all the recent achievements. Slowly, I started reading the posts of other people. This gave me the idea of writing my own thoughts and expressing the beauty of my words. Do you also enjoy reading somebody's written thoughts that are relatable to your personal life? Comment down your experiences. I would love to read them. Recruiting and Employing Early Career Talent? Well, what is your offering? Do you know what Gen Zs are looking for? As a Career Readiness Professional that has met over 1000+ students across 4 campuses in 12 months I have asked this question. Here are my findings...... 1. What are the hiring goals/plans for our company in the long term? 2. What growth opportunities can newcomers anticipate at this organization? 3. What educational opportunities, training programs and assistance does our company provide for entry-level talent beyond new hire training? 4. What does the company communicate via social and online about its mission and values and are they true to it day to day? 5. Is the company reaching early talent early enough? Is the employer on campus beyond a career fair? 6. Are you as an employer connecting with early career talent in a manner that resonates with them? 7. What does the D&I look like within your company and what are it's goals? All thing to consider when your prospecting, sourcing, recruiting and more importantly representing your company/employer on college campuses. Know your audience, do you research. You'll have a higher win percentage. Spot Freight

Thanks for having me Redlands & Liz Green. Two things that stood out to me while preparing for this day were: 1. 65% of Gen Alphas will work in jobs that don't even exist yet 😳 2. The insane rate of change in the social media industry from when I was in Year 8, to today, once I put it all on a timeline. There really would have been no point in me trying to give key advice to these kids about how to do my job today. Instead, I focussed on what I think won't change: 1. Businesses will always need to talk to their audience somehow. 2. Humans need and want connection. 3. Technology is most successful when used to enhance human ideas, not replace them. Final thoughts - still not sure how I feel about being called "Mrs Ward".
Gen Zs can expect to have as many as 17 jobs and up to seven careers over the course of their working lives. What will those jobs be? We can scarcely predict. One way Redlands is shifting the dial on what “future ready” means is by helping students recognise and cultivate their transferable skills, skills they can take into a variety of industries. As part of our 'Future Think: Career Clusters Challenge Day', our Year 8's are exploring skills, interests, motivations and strengths, rather than job titles or industries. Thanks to all our cluster representatives who shared their considerable knowledge from their given industries and professions and well done to everyone who organised such an insightful day for our students. Topic of the month: Cognizant's off-campus drive for mass hiring at 2.5 LPA. I notice many of us are not motivated by the figure they are offering. My views: Against: 1. Definitely, 2.5 LPA is low, given that we hear many global tech companies are offering much higher salaries also considering expenses in metro city, 2.5LPA is low. 2. We can see that many blue-collar jobs provide comparable earnings, so why should one invest in studying? Benefits: 1. I think it's still a good attempt by Cognizant, considering that: - We've seen companies slowing down hiring over the last two years. - We're experiencing underemployment, and graduates aren't even getting internships. 2. People are comparing this to a maid's salary (or a street vendor's earnings), but that's not a fair comparison. If someone wants to grow in the IT field in the long term and isn't getting any opportunities (not even internships), doesn't joining Cognizant and learning seem like a good deal? Thoughts?
