Today, I got rejected once again... This is a situation many people face. But why does rejection happen without an interview? The reason behind this can often be a single 6-word letter: the RESUME. ⤿Job openings announced. ⤿Applied. ⤿Application submitted. ⤿Waited a few days. ⤿Received an email: unfortunately, you are not selected. This is the process of giving immediate disappointment to a candidate. Rejections often occur based on the resume: ✳️The resume is not ATS-friendly. ✳️The resume does not match the job description. ✳️The resume lacks relevant skills. ✳️The resume format is not appropriate. ✳️The resume is not eye-catching. ✳️The resume is not readable. ✳️As a fresher, the resume is not a single page. ✳️Relevant keywords are missing. ✳️Lack of experience. ✳️Absence of a brand name like IIT/NIT or major companies. There are many reasons that can lead to a candidate's rejection. Some reasons seem genuine, while others feel like a quick judgment of a candidate. Don’t you think? A candidate with an internship, Studying from IIT/NIT or a major company, regardless of the brand name on their resume, should be considered if their resume is readable, well-structured, and includes properly mentioned skills, hands-on experience, and projects. While ATS often favors branding names, a well-organized resume with good formatting should still perform well. Unfortunately, resumes are sometimes judged on superficial aspects, which is a reality we face. PS: There should be some changes in the selection process, even if not a lot. It’s becoming increasingly important. 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗕𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝘀: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝗽 𝗧𝗼𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗠𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 💥READ MY STORY OF GETTING MY FIRST JOB BELOW: (The opinions expressed here are entirely my own, and I respect that everyone’s journey and opinions may differ😊) Looking back on my journey, I realize how every challenge and setback played an important role in getting my first job.I graduated with a B.E. in ECE from Sona College of Technology in May 2024. Like many others, I faced rejections early on during campus placements, I cleared some rounds but got rejected in three interviews. Completing college without a job offer felt like a nightmare, filled with pressure, fear, and uncertainty about the future. But I didn't lose hope. I started applying through various job platforms like LinkedIn, Naukri, Indeed, Glassdoor and many more.𝗜 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝟭𝟮 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘀 and even though I didn’t make it through all of them, each interview gave me a better idea of how to talk to HR and present myself confidently. Then came the turning point. In May 2024, TCS conducted the National Qualifier Test (NQT), but I couldn’t attend it due to health issues. Missing that felt like my last chance slipping away, But life always gives you a second chance 🌟 In July, I got another opportunity to take the NQT, and this time, I tried my best to improve my skills according to the job role. All the interviews and rejections prepared me for this moment. After countless attempts, I finally received a job offer from Tata Consultancy Services for the Digital profile with a package of around 𝟳 𝗟𝗣𝗔. 💥To some, this might not seem like a big achievement, but for me, as a fresher securing a job outside campus placements, it's an achievement, in my opinion. This is just the first step in my career journey, and I KNOW THERE’S MUCH MORE TO ACHIEVE!. For anyone reading this, I want to say something: "𝗗𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲. 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲😊" #tcs #achievement #fresher #joboffer #Career #motivation #jobjourney

I applied for my first job because a close friend of mine and I wanted to work together. This first job was a Software engineer at Infosys. There is so much of gyaan giving these days about what are the hot skills you need to pick. Learn this and 2X-3X your salary – says every Youtube or Insta ad ever. Hot skills are exciting and boost employability - fair. But there is surprisingly less thought into the stuff that hugely influence your actions for finding a job. We look for the people we know And hope to join a place where some familiarity exists. Especially in mid-management roles common after MBA, this is what helps in charting out our growth path and trajectory. A friend or ex-colleague recently joined some place. Someone you know from your school, college, is in the place you saw an opening – you will reach out. Or the best thing – someone you know is looking to build a team We often focus on too much intelligence but looking up jobs is hugely influenced by the needs of familiarity. Because familiarity begets Comfort. And this is – Same as Ever. Across ages, across generations. What can you do – Build your network, grow your ecosystem. And if you can, try reading Network theory – Especially the concept of dormant connects in your Network who can radically amplify your reach. Thoughts? Satadru Biswas

IMPORTANT - Why Do Companies Prioritize Documents Over Candidates their needs and Their Emotions? It's time to address a critical aspect of the hiring process that often goes unnoticed: the emphasis placed on documents over the candidates themselves. Recently, I experienced firsthand the impact of this practice when my application for a role at Genpact was terminated due to the absence of a single document - my service letter from a previous organization iEnergizer . Despite providing all other required documents and demonstrating my capabilities during the interview process, the lack of this one piece of paper led to the abrupt end of my candidacy. But the challenges didn't end there. When I reached out to my previous employer to request the service letter, I was met with shockingly high demands - a staggering amount of 48,000 rupees for a single document. This exorbitant demand not only felt unjust but also demonstrated a lack of empathy and understanding of my situation. What makes this situation even more disheartening is the fact that I was hired as an apprentice under the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme, a program supported by the Ministry of Education under the Government of India. While I acknowledge the necessity of documentation to verify qualifications and ensure compliance, I urge companies to consider the human element behind every application. Candidates invest time, effort, and often emotional energy into pursuing opportunities, and a rigid focus on paperwork alone can disregard the individual's potential and suitability for the role. As organizations strive to create inclusive and empathetic workplaces, it is crucial to reevaluate hiring practices to strike a balance between procedural requirements and human considerations. This involves fostering open communication, understanding individual circumstances, and providing flexibility where possible. Let us move towards a future where the value of candidates extends beyond the confines of paperwork, and where empathy and understanding are integral parts of the recruitment process. It's fascinating how certain concepts remain abstract until they happen in our lives. For instance, take 'Missing-a-train", I knew people missed their trains for various reasons and it could happen to anyone, but I thought I would never miss one, Why ? Because (until it happened, which it did, when I was 29) for 29 years I have never missed a Train. Its amazing, how our brains intertwine these two overlapping concepts of 'Has-Never-Happened' and 'Will-Never-Happen' synonyms. I have been working for 10 years now. Even before the college farewell wishes and tears could dry up, I got the call letter from Infosys, which was my campus placement. From there on, it has been a linear graph upward. Opportunities just came my way and I just went ahead with them and they definitely have been rewarding. Then the UNTIL phrase got added. Another abstract concept became a reality. LAYOFF. Ironically, I have received my first offer letter and termination letter exactly on the same date May16, ten years apart. As I type this post reminiscing the highs and lows of my career, I feel oddly optimistic that, this couldnt have happened at a better timing, if it had to happen. I deem myself to be one of the fortunate ones, who can consider this period as a break, an extended vacation and rebuild as I navigate through this job hunt mid career. One month of job hunt has taught me that this is a very tough market to crack and you need to be unique, to even be looked at. I intend to do so, by sharing my knowledge here as Byte sized videos. I request you guys to support me in this new journey of mine. Lets do this #OpentoWork #CanadianJobhunt #JobSearchCanada #CanadaJobs #CanadianJobMarket #JobsInCanada #HiringCanada #CanadianCareers #CanadaJobHunt
