People who adopt #digitalization technologies become much better and faster at innovating. Almost every innovation can be tied back to reduced emissions - through things like less weight, less size, less shipping, less waste, less raw materials and less energy. Take a look at this great example from Australia which has just been showcased at glasstec – International Trade Fair in Germany. This technological innovation has replaced traditional old fashioned and carbon intensive methods to clean glass bottle moulds and is now having a global impact on the glass bottling industry in other parts of the world. And that impact of using #AI and #automation and #robotics and #lazers has the potential to reduce raw silica by over 700,000 tonnes a year. Converting this silica to molten glass may ordinarily generate about 1 billion kg of CO2 per year. Not to count for incredible reductions in other supply chain emissions (scope 3 #netzero). 📣 Event Update: glasstec 2024 We are thrilled to announce that we will be joining glasstec – International Trade Fair this year! Sustainability is not just about creating eco-friendly end products but also about ensuring that manufacturing processes are greener and cleaner. The glass industry is one of Europe’s largest production sectors. As it is energy-intensive and reliant on fossil fuels, the industry is responsible for 22 million tonnes of CO2 emissions per year in Europe. However, energy efficiency has been - and will increasingly become - an integral part of the glass production process. But how? Electrification is one way forward, but clearly not the only option! To significantly reduce CO2 emissions, in addition to electric solutions, energy can also be supplied by burning hydrogen (H2), forming a hybrid solution. Furthermore, an H2-only solution could be a viable option, as it potentially requires fewer changes to the existing hardware in the glass production process compared to switching to an electric solution.
