Horn Glass Industries supplies third furnace to Ambev Horn Glass Industries AG Industries has supplied its third #manufacturing furnace to Ambev as construction continues at its Carambeí facility in #Brazil. The Carambeí container glass production facility in the state of Paraná will produce bottles for brands such as Stella Artois, Beck’s and Spaten, and serve Ambev breweries across #Brazil. The #construction site in Carambeí is currently in full swing. At the end of January, Horn #employees will also be on-site to support the installation process and ensure a smooth assembly of the melting furnace. Horn said the new furnace will have an output of 400 tonnes per day of #bottles, together with three forehearths for #glass conditioning. It will manufacture container bottles in flint, amber and #green colours. Its E-fusion power-boosting #technology will allow the furnace to produce the maximum pull on all three colours with 6% or even up to 20% electrical share. Furthermore the furnace will be capable of operating on either natural gas, #LPG or #biofuels and will use modern technology to achieve superior #energy efficiency. #jobs #naturalgas #growth #business #investment #opportunity

O-I Glass is to close two #manufacturing furnaces in Europe by January 15. The closures, which are part of the company's Fit to Win initiative to reduce excess capacity, will impact 100 people. Employees were told the news on Thursday last week (December 12). The company expects to record charges of $72 million for these closures. Major components of the charges include approximately $40 million for impairment of plant-related assets, such as the closed furnaces and related machinery. It also includes $32 million for employee separation benefits and other costs related to the closing (of which approximately $24 million relate to future cash expenditures).

AGC joins Glass Futures The AGC Group has become a member of Glass Futures with the aim to make flat glass manufacturing more sustainable. AGC will collaborate with Glass Futures’ membership network across the #glass supply chain towards a #sustainable future. The flat glass manufacturer said it was committed to developing new glass products with better #environmental performance. To achieve #CO2-neutral glass production by 2050, all parts of the value chain need to be taken into consideration. Dr Terutaka Maehara, Leader of the Hot Process team at the AGC Innovative Technology Laboratories in Yokohama, Japan said: “AGC’s glass #business encompasses a wide range of products, including flat glass, display glass, and speciality glass, with #manufacturing sites located around the world. “Therefore, the requirements for achieving carbon neutrality vary depending on each business segment and each production site, necessitating the development and focus on various #technologies. The facility will allow glass and foundation industries to trial technologies and generate ideas that will support the industry to decarbonise. Dave Fordham, Global Engagement Lead at Glass Futures said: “We were pleased to welcome members of AGC’s innovation team from Japan and Belgium to our pilot facility. “Here, we're currently installing an industrial scale 30 tpd pilot furnace to explore the technical foundations for achieving carbon neutral glass melting. “We’re delighted the global glass giant has joined our growing network of members to help the industry achieve its sustainability goals.” AGC joins fellow glassmaking members of Glass Futures including Ardagh, O-I (founder member), and Verallia.
