Domestic violence is more than a personal issue; it’s a societal crisis that impacts millions of people each year. This month, let’s take a moment to reflect on how we can actively support survivors and prevent further violence. Breaking the cycle of abuse starts with awareness, but it doesn’t end there. We need to foster safe environments where survivors feel heard, believed, and supported. Whether through volunteering, donating, or simply educating ourselves and others, each of us can make a difference. Remember, everyone deserves to feel safe and valued in their relationships. If you or someone you know is in need, reach out—there are resources available to help. Let’s commit to being part of the solution, not just during this month, but every day.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and at DPS-AM, we stand in solidarity with survivors. No one should suffer in silence, and it takes collective action to create safe spaces where survivors feel heard, supported, and empowered. This month, we encourage everyone to take meaningful steps—whether by learning the signs, offering support, volunteering, or donating. Consider supporting local nonprofits like The Network: Advocating Against Domestic Violence, Between Friends, or Ascend Justice, all of which provide essential services such as crisis intervention, legal advocacy, and counseling to survivors of domestic violence. If you or someone you know needs help, the Illinois Domestic Violence Hotline offers confidential support: 877-863-6338.

Have you ever considered the immense responsibility we have to protect those who cannot protect themselves? In Psalm 82:3-4, we are reminded of God's command to "Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed." This powerful message highlights the call to action that each of us has in our communities. It’s not just about offering support; it’s about standing up for justice and being advocates for those whose voices may be silenced. Reflecting on this, I realize that true leadership involves compassion and advocacy. As we navigate our professional lives, we should ask ourselves how we can make a difference. Whether it's mentoring someone in need, supporting local charities, or simply being a listening ear, our actions can have a profound impact. What are some ways you’ve taken steps to uplift and defend the vulnerable in your community or workplace? Let’s share our experiences and inspire one another to create a more compassionate world. Did you know that Realtors volunteer at three times the rate of the average American? 💪 Giving back to the community is a big part of who we are and there are many ways to make a positive impact, whether it's donating items you no longer need, offering financial support, or volunteering your time. Organize a fundraiser or a drive to gather essentials like food, clothes, or household items for those in need. You can also honor those who serve by supporting local police, fire departments, and veterans. 🚓🚒🎖️ During disasters, stepping up to assist with shelter, food, or supplies can make a huge difference. 🏠🍲 If you're unsure how to get involved, ask local organizations where your skills and resources could be best utilized. Sometimes, the best way to give back is by joining forces with others to maximize impact. 🤝 Every bit helps, and together, we can build a stronger, more supportive community. 🌟 Do you love your community? 📢 Why Mutual Aid Matters Now More Than Ever In times of crisis and uncertainty, mutual aid networks remind us of the power of community. Mutual aid is about neighbors supporting neighbors, sharing resources, and showing up for each other. Unlike charity, it’s built on solidarity, where everyone contributes and benefits. It’s about seeing each other’s humanity and working together to meet urgent needs when systems fall short. Shoutout to @MutualAidNYC for their dedication to connecting people across the city with food, shelter, medical supplies, and more. 💛 You’re helping build a New York where no one faces challenges alone. Let's continue to support and uplift each other—because a strong community is unstoppable.

From our intake team: "In July, we saw a 30% increase in service requests compared to the previous month. Each inquiry is carefully reviewed to determine if we can best serve their needs. We assess factors such as abuse or neglect history, jurisdiction, legal standing, and the specific area of law required. Out of these inquiries, 40% met the criteria to proceed with a full application. While we can’t assist every family directly, it’s reassuring to know that even when we’re not the right fit, we can connect them with other valuable community resources, ensuring no one is left without support." -Gabby Cena, MJM Intake Specialist #mjm #methodistjusticeministry #nonprofitlawyers #probonolawyers #philanthropy #hope #protect #support #admin #july #fortworth #officestats
