Representatives from PortXL attended the ‘Netwerk der Netwerken’ (Network of Networks) event in Rotterdam. The purpose of the event, held by the Provincie Zuid-Holland (Economics and Innovation), was to help businesses in South Holland to make an impact as a network and to strengthen and learn from each other within that network.     Presentations were given by a.o. Meindert Stolk from the Province of South Holland and Ron Vaz Dias from the innovation network, iTanks, about the importance of networks. These networks are essential because they connect people and companies in order to promote innovation.     SmartPortRdam, Maritime Delta, EICB and others were all there to connect the dots. To further develop innovations in the networks they were given a subsidy, together with Unmanned Valley and Protein Port of Planet B.io Attendees included managers of businesses that currently utilize the RNIZ subsidy scheme. These are innovators who are part of the ecosystem and are committed to sustainability. The goal of this event was to understand how this network can not only reach their target groups, but also get them involved and make an impact towards those goals.     PortXL is an integral part of the innovation ecosystem of Rotterdam. It was interesting to see regional innovation initiatives, not only from the maritime and port industries, but also from, for example, the food industry.

Large manufacturers world-wide build #pilot factories to test new digitization use cases, increasingly finding good #RoI and #scalable solutions 3. The #cost of #digital solutions for #manufacturing is dropping, but manufacturing #SMEs are have been left out in awe, still rarely finding sufficient RoI 4. The data use cases in manufacturing arise with ongoing digitization, partnerships, #datasharing, and manufacturers are learning to work with external SaaS IT and #digitalplatforms 5. The landscape of IT / data suppliers is complex and manufacturers often struggle to find the right suppliers. Growing #networks of verified solutions such as EIT Manufacturing or #EDIH but also trusted experienced consultants can help mainly SMEs to navigate the space 6. #AI disrupts a range of manufacturing company functions. The most significant may soon be an AI-powered #Manufacturingexecutionsystem with no CAPEX 100x faster than in 2020. These 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬, proposed as 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨-𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 (#IEMC), have the potential to represent not only a powerful 𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞for #innovation but also a regional development 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐥 centered on #antifragility and the 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝. 𝐈𝐄𝐌𝐂𝐬 can take different forms (innovation clusters, innovation districts, innovation consortia, innovation alliances, innovation partnership programs, up to innovation business ecosystems), however, an IEMC 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐚 𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐡𝐧𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦: it can expand and become a 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨-𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 (#MXC), encompassing the entire 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲, 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞, and 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 that form the 𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐨-𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐟𝐚𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐜 of the 𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐚 . This approach promotes an 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐯𝐞 and 𝐰𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭, benefiting not only the companies involved but also the 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 and 𝐟𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐬 living and working in these territories. 🌱👨👩👧👦 The 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 of this approach was also highlighted yesterday during the 𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐭 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐲 of Confindustria Bergamo and Confindustria Brescia held at Orio al Serio International Airport. 𝐓𝐰𝐨 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬, among the most advanced in Italy and Europe, have 𝐝𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐝ed 𝐭𝐨 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 by 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 on 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞, 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, and 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧. A 𝐬𝐲𝐦𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞, the airport, from which this 𝐛𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 of an 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 based on 𝐡𝐮𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩𝐬 can truly "take off" towards the world. ✈️🌟 💡 To #innovate means to 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞, to build 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, and to 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐠𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫, such as those posed by the #SDGs. The work on 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬 can be the 𝐤𝐞𝐲 to making these goals concrete and achievable, 𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐯𝐚𝐥𝐮𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 a 𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲.
