We are thrilled to partner with Kait’s Angels of Mattituck to provide LifeVac devices to local organizations, police departments and schools. The nonprofit hosted a demonstration and distributed the devices at Branch Brewery on Friday. “We’re going to put them in every car, put them on our marine vessels and in our headquarters. They need your help to raise funds to request that the High Court redoes Jools’ inquest and demands social media companies release data which could give these parents answers. Howard Zinn, one of the most influential historians in American history said, "Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world." Did you know that, per the State Department in 2023, that an estimated 27.6 million human beings, individuals like you and me, are currently victims of trafficking worldwide? Sadly, many of them are often hidden right in front of us. Human trafficking is a crime that deprives millions of people of their dignity and freedom. It's real. We CAN do something about it. We remain silent, and nothing changes. But together, every effort makes a difference. Today, I urge you to take a moment and reflect. If you can do something, see what that is. When we each do what we can, it comes together in a beautiful way and becomes the wave that moves things. Every second counts when it comes to creating safer communities. That’s why UWTC’s One Second Collaborative (OSC) recently awarded $90,000 in microgrants to 12 organizations dedicated to fostering safer communities in Fort Worth, Arlington and Crowley. These grants, supported by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds administered by Tarrant County and the City of Fort Worth, allowed grantees to deliver programs that address the root causes of youth gun violence. For example, NEX Metropolitan used its microgrant to host prevention sessions for high school students impacted by or at risk of gun violence. These sessions fostered awareness and empowered youth to envision safer, brighter futures for themselves and their communities. Launched in December 2022, OSC unites community organizations to provide education, workforce training, and essential resources, helping young people and families navigate daily challenges. Following the tragedy in Enoch, UT, we worked with many businesses and nonprofit organizations to hand out Bi-Tapp kits to those in need. This included: Law Enforcement Officers, classrooms, individual students, teachers, neighbors and close friends of the family who were struggling with the impact of this tragedy. Bi-Tapp is a real time resource being used by all ages. When your stress/anxiety level is a 6 or higher (scale of 0-10), it becomes difficult, if not impossible to remember what to do to calm down.
