Thank you so much to our co-organizer Mike Shoss for streaming this event! 150 people packed OneEleven last night, and the energy was electric. The panel was incredible, so many diverse perspectives from internal talent acquisition leaders, external recruiters, start-up advisors, and two recently hired PMs, we had all angles on the job hunt. I got so much out of the session, here are some of my key take-aways and your TLDR on how to approach your job hunt right now: 1) Be intentional - think about the type of company you want to work at, whether it be size, stage, domain, business model, and understand why you want that. 2) Personalization gives you an edge - blast applying and not caring about the opportunity is a waste of time. Use your intentionality to pick the jobs you really want, and then put the extra effort in to telling the org why you are interested and how you would make an impact on their bottom line. Our panelist Caitlin Chua cold applied to her current role and included a case analysis that framed her whole interview process. 3) Don't be afraid to be your authentic self - tell your employer about yourself, and show your personal interests. If that somehow deters them from hiring you, then it wasn't a fit for you in the first place. Remember rejection is protection. 4) Networking isn't a means to an end, it's the whole journey- Building connections in your community can absolute help you get a job, but you shouldn't do it only to get a job. Make networking a journey for yourself and aim to build meaningful connections. They will help you in the long-run through professional opportunities, but also help you build your craft, make friends and

This week marks 8 years at Culture Amp. 𝐓𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐬 𝐈’𝐯𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐚 𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 🤯 From startup to scaleup, I've witnessed 4️⃣ funding rounds, 3️⃣ acquisitions, and 2️⃣ layoffs, but Culture Amp has always been my 🥇. Instead of #jobhopping, I’ve carved out my path here. From joining as a fresh-faced I/O masters graduate in a tiny SF office with 15 employees, I’ve made 2 vertical jumps, 2 lateral moves, and embraced the biggest role change of all – becoming a mom. Let me tell an hypothetical story how to overcome fear and land your role.. After months of applying, John had faced rejection from over 15 product management roles. He felt frustrated, wondering if his skills were inadequate. One day, John attended a product management conference and met a seasoned PM, Rachel. "Before landing my dream role, I applied to 25 companies and got rejected 20 times," Rachel shared. "But each rejection taught me something new. I refined my skills, networked, and persisted." Inspired, John adjusted his approach: 1. He honed his product sense through case studies and mock interviews. 2. He highlighted transferable skills from previous roles. 3. He expanded his network through product management communities. 4. He practiced articulating his thought process. 5. He tailored his resume and cover letter to each application. Soon, John landed an interview with a top tech company. And then another. Rejection didn't disappear, but his fear did. John realized: Rejection isn't failure; it's a step closer to the right product management role. Every 'no' brings you closer to the 'yes' you need. --- Tips to overcome fear of applying for product management roles due to numerous rejections: 1. Remember: - Airbnb's PM, Joe Zulli, was rejected by 10 companies before joining Airbnb. - Instagram's PM, Chris Cox, faced rejection from multiple startups. Keep pushing forward. 💭 We've all been there - spotting incredible talent and immediately thinking, "They're perfect for this challenging role". ➡️ But here's the thing - are we forgetting that even talented people need time to grow and adapt? 🌱 Let me share two examples: 1/ The New team lead 👩💼: Sarah got promoted to team lead because she was an awesome developer. Everyone expected her to immediately rock at managing people, project timelines, and client relationships. But guess what? Even though she had the technical skills, she needed time to develop her leadership style. Her manager recognized this and set up a mentoring program - now, six months later, she's killing it! But that growth took time and support. 2/ The Career switcher 🔄: Think about James, who switched from teaching to UX design. He had amazing transferable skills - creativity, understanding user needs, presentation abilities. But some companies expected him to perform like someone with 5 years of UX experience right off the bat! The company that hired him? — They saw his potential and gave him a 90-day ramp-up period. Now he's bringing a unique perspective to their projects. 🤔Why this matters? Just like a mama bear doesn't expect her cubs to hunt on day one, we shouldn't expect instant perfection from people in new roles or challenges. It's like: - Nature knows growth takes time 🐻 - Skills need nurturing to flourish 🌿 - Confidence builds with experience 📈 ➡️ The Real talk: In business, we often get caught up in: - Pushing limits (good!) - Setting unrealistic timelines (not so good!) - Forgetting everyone grows differently (definitely not good!) ➡️ Instead, let's focus on: — Setting challenging but achievable goals — Celebrating progress, not just end results — Creating supportive environments for growth The Bottom line is: Progress isn't about sprinting to the finish line - it's about enjoying and learning from the journey.
