In football, technologies like VAR (Video Assistant Referee) and GOAL-LINE technology have become standard, improving the accuracy of decisions and enhancing the fairness of the game. Beyond the pitch, data analytics are playing a crucial role in player performance and recruitment, with clubs leveraging AI to identify talent and optimize strategies. Football clubs and leagues are increasingly investing in virtual teams and tournaments. Sustainability has become a critical focus in sports, and football is no exception. Cool chart of 35 Unicorns 🦄 in Sports Technology. Nice work SportsTechX. couple of thoughts... 1) What's interesting is comparing this to other emerging sectors -- FinTech has 350 Unicorns (10x), HealthTech has 150 Unicorns (5x) and EdTech has 35 Unicorns (Similar). I did some additional analysis and it seems the SportsTech ones appear to be "smaller" Unicorns which partly reflects the younger and maturing digitization of the sector. Seems obvious, but now seems like a great time to get on the Sports Tech bus 🚌 with significant expansion upside. 2) I was genuinely surprised by the high B2C composition of the Sports Tech Unicorns. From wearables, gym & fitness digital, fantasy, mobile, merchandise, digital collectibles or Web 3.0 -- majority of Sports Tech Unicorns were 100% focused on consumer-empowering. Once upon a time B2B was the clear "King" of Sports Tech -- Sportradar, Genius Sports, etc -- when you were giving global success stories. Now a totally new breed of superstar companies has blossomed... focused on getting people fitter, celebrating louder, entertaining audiences and gaming together. 3) Look carefully at the graphic and notice the lack of companies that sell directly to Sports Teams, Clubs & Sports Federations. Novices will think that's where the biggest companies are built -- they're not. Sure there are some, but elite sports in itself is a small market, with very busy "customers" and geographically fragmented. Adjacent markets of "Human Optimisation" that compliment Sports are 10x bigger -- Defence, Allied Health, Wellness etc -- are enormous. Get your strategy right. Fascinating to see how the next generation of digitization and data-led Sports companies that become Unicorns by 2032 ✨️

Sports M&A is hot hot hot 🔥 📢 Here are excerpts from our latest Global Sports Tech VC Report 2024, highlighting the main trends shaping the sports tech landscape. ✅ M&A in Sports: $37 billion+ in M&A deals in 2024 This is a major factor when we refer to strong tailwinds and macro drivers that make us optimistic about the growth of Sports Tech: it's because sports itself is growing—and in a big way. ✅ Solutions for Fans: 65% of Total Investments in 2024 41% increase compared to 2023 As we emerged from the pandemic, it became clear that during times of crisis, sports turn to their fans. Immersive experiences and ticketing have been the primary focus of this investment.
