From Manila to Malta inside 6 months, the journey of discovery and education in the space continues. Over the past few months we’ve been working very hard, behind the scenes, to make the newly launched sports tech track of AIBC World ‘filled’ with real experts, pioneers and innovators in the industry. Whether it is web3, data, AI or anything else tech related the sports industry is waking up to the realisation that for far too long, some of the biggest sporting properties in the world had been ‘giving away’ a big portion of their ‘meal’ to other players in the industry and the 2025 onwards will probably mark the ‘new’ beginning where the sports industry’s biggest asset, fans, will start benefiting as content creators and main protagonists of all. My keynote entitled “Enablers & Trends of the Future of Sport Industry - Web3, Big Brands & Their Respective Roles" will tackle this subject and offer an Overview on How Traditional Sports & Blockchain & AI (including web3 & creators’ economy) go hand in hand, and what role global telecoms can play in this convergence; and why web3 really matters for the benefit of fans more than ever before!? I will talk about what holds the key to tomorrow’s success and how the understanding of the dynamic landscape of web3-driven products and services plays a pivotal role in it; how the convergence of sports, web3, AI & 5G unlocks new capabilities and digital offerings, reshaping experiences for sport fans and unlocks revenue opportunities for sporting properties. Something we at Blocksport pioneered in the space together with Deutsche Telekom, and our first successful sporting property launch with Telekom Baskets Bonn, where we continue to innovate and drive the power of digitalisation and data ownership for everyone's benefit. The future of products and services, driven by web3, promises to redefine the sport industry and I’ll address the roles within web3 adoption that global telecoms play and what trends drive innovation that emerge out of this environment and how we can cultivate an ecosystem through cross-industry collaboration, even cross-nation, to ignite sport industry transformation and create unprecedented economic opportunities!?! All in all, it’s never been more exciting (and more challenging) to be involved with sports across the board and I sincerely hope to offer some useful insights as well as provoke thought process amongst attendees of this year’s major event, Sigma’s and AIBC’s biggest to date, and a super special one too, their 10th anniversary! Huge congratulations to Eman PULIS and his team led by Emily Micallef and Olga Yaroshevsky and now the years of collaboration between us poised to positively impact the industry and offer useful insights into the imminent future and what is to follow. And looking forward to connecting with ROBERT CUSCHIERI and his camera too. Secure your tickets here: https://lnkd.in/enVZqTJ5 #Web3 #Blockchain #Sports #Gaming SiGMA World #keynote #ambassador

Some great concepts to think about! How genuine can Data-driven fan experiences be? Anything AI I’m always intrigued. The NBA has made it tough for niche leagues in Basketball in the states. I’d be curious if and how leagues like the TBL can truly become a reputable and high level league that is sought after. Player driven media will be another interesting route. Many time as athletes we only express the “lifestyle” but never seem to delve a little deeper into the life, purpose, identity of the athlete. Who is the person in the player? What is their ripple of affect? Youth sports is where I want to make infrastructure impact. We constantly talk about the European model but still stay in our heavy volume AAU model, more games then practice. In the midst of our youth sports we also have many uninformed families left to the wolves of the industry. It will start with education and then a major shift in perspective of what success for youth aspiring to make it to the next level and maximize their journey is.
Former Pro Athlete | Founder of Vetted Sports | Daily insights around sports, technology & investing
I've been thinking a lot about the future of sports and trends recently. Here are 10 general concepts I’m keeping my eye on (in no particular order) and why I think they’ll explode in one sentence: 🕹️ Sportainment venues 𝑾𝒉𝒚? They provide unique experiences and the ability to connect and interact with others when loneliness is very prevalent in society. 📊 Data-driven fan experiences 𝑾𝒉𝒚? Organizations are getting serious about personalized content for fans and innovative engagement opportunities. 💪 AI recovery & prevention tech 𝑾𝒉𝒚? When athletes last longer, and become stronger and more durable, it's a win for everyone. 🏓 Emerging niche leagues 𝑾𝒉𝒚? Most won't become billion-dollar organizations, but the appeal and attention for niche sports are clearly there. 🎰 Sports betting boom 𝑾𝒉𝒚? This is already evident, but we haven't even scratched the surface of how big sports betting will be in the US. 🎥 Player-driven media 𝑾𝒉𝒚? Players are realizing the importance of relationships and owning their narrative which will grow as digitally native athletes mature. 🏟️ Mixed-used stadiums and arenas 𝑾𝒉𝒚? Owners are putting big dollars behind stadium renovations and mixed-used entertainment plazas where fans will play, live, and work. 🏅 Consolidation of youth sports 𝑾𝒉𝒚? The space is fragmented but there is a ton of PE money and many emerging startups in the space. ⛹️♀️ Growth of women’s sports 𝑾𝒉𝒚? There has been a major influx of women-focused media platforms, funds, capital, and creators in the space. 🥽 VR/AR training tools 𝑾𝒉𝒚? As a former athlete - this is just really cool to me, but I believe it'll democratize access to high-level coaching. What are some sports trends you're most interested in 👇

🏆 ISPO 2024 Wrap-Up: Passion and Innovation in Sports! 🏟️ ISPO Munich 2024 was an incredible experience! Speakers like Sebastián Lancestremère, Greg Nieuwenhuys, Danay Lea, Timm Jäger, Timo S. showcased the industry’s drive for Data & AI-powered performance, fan engagement, and financial independence. From Andre Agassi with Pickleball to Sebastian Vettel’s SailGP and the Zverevs investing in IMPROVR, ISPO & STN showcased how athletes are shaping sports tech’s future. Top Trends 1️⃣ Athlete Performance Innovation: • Data is king! Leaders like Stefan Zant (Sportradar), Maximilian Schmidt (KINEXON) S, and Alexander Will (IMPROVR)are advancing Data & AI-driven solutions for the sport industry, injury prevention and neurotraining. • VR-based coaching allows anytime, anywhere training, but wearables remain a challenge—only 3% deliver reliable data (Peter Düking). AI-generated training plans depend on prompting skills and show promise, even without sport-specific data. A trend analysis with regular testing could predict when AI starts training the trainers—but defining what makes a great personal trainer remains a key question. 2️⃣ Fan Engagement Gaps: • Untapped potential: Tim Krieglstein, CEO of Team SailGP Germany, demonstrated how real-time data (1,000+ points/min) boosts (tactical) performance, showing me the opportunities and potential for immersive fan experiences - e.g. via Augment Reality TV (ZDF) or building communities and second screen leveraging omni-channel platforms. • Many organizations still lack tools to activate communities, fill venues, and reduce reliance on sponsorships or TV rights—a huge growth opportunity. 3️⃣ Smart Venues as Ecosystems: • SAP Garden’s Digital Ecosystem is a standout example of journey towards connected stadiums, seamlessly integrating fans, athletes, and operations. • EintrachtTech is also paving the way with its approach to linking digital services to community-building efforts. 4️⃣ Multi-Seller Marketplaces: • Brands are embracing Direct-to-Fan platforms to own the entire user journey, from initial engagement to loyalty-building touchpoints. By focusing on their own traffic and communities, they are reducing dependence on Google, retail channels, and competitors. Futurice's Role: 24+ years specializing in brand-independent co-creation consulting to help shaping your future. 🎯 AI-Driven WoWs: Embedding GenAI and data-driven decision-making. 📊 Scalable Solutions: Co-innovating fan engagement ecosystems and smart venue platforms, fast. 🛠️ End-to-End Expertise: Combining strategy, UX, and tech to solve the right problem. What’s your passion? 🚴♂️ Mine? Rule #10: It doesn’t get easier; you just get faster! Business mindset? Love the problem, not the solution! 💬 Book 15 minutes of talk about passion, fans, athletes, and your brand’s future! https://lnkd.in/gRFEyCtd #ISPO2024 #SportsInnovation #FanEngagement #SmartVenues #AI #GameChanger #SAPGarden #Futurice #STN
