Raise your hand if you've ever had a top performer who relies on the "Brain CRM"—the one that only exists in their head. These top salespeople, especially the Lone Wolf types, can hit big numbers without ever logging a deal into a CRM. But this approach creates a huge risk for your sales organization. How can you manage and measure what you can’t see? How do you transfer their success to the rest of the team? And what happens if they leave, taking their open deals, processes, and insights with them? Implementing a CRM and fostering a culture that values its use goes beyond helping one person do their job better. It’s about reducing risk, creating visibility, and building a foundation for your team to scale and grow.
We're thrilled to see one of our Vehicle Acquisition Network Standard dealers through the vAuto by Cox Automotive ProfitTime partnership experiencing remarkable success, already on track to acquire ten cars by the 7th! At this pace, they'll max out their current capacity of 30 cars in no time. They're ready to upgrade to Accelerate for enhanced features to be more efficient and buy more cars. While this level of production is impressive, the GM is understandably budget-conscious. However, there are other factors to consider beyond immediate results: 1. Burnout: How sustainable is this level of manual effort in the long run? Efficiency products and tracking are crucial to maintain high performance over time. 2. Tap Out: What if the dealership wants to acquire 50 or 60 cars? One high-performing user might get the job done now, but scaling requires effectively distributing opportunities and tracking efforts. 3. Succession Plan: What happens if this user gets promoted or leaves? Relying on one individual's knowledge and process is risky. A solid, repeatable, and scalable process is essential for long-term success. These are the considerations the GM should weigh when evaluating the investment value and ROI of upgrading to a tool like VAN Accelerate. It's not just about today's numbers; it's about building a sustainable, scalable process for future growth.

Insights from the latest Business Car release! At the dawn of the decade, having a dedicated UK fleet boss was a standard practice for car manufacturers of all sizes. These individuals were the driving force behind fleet sales, steering the business end of operations with expertise and finesse. While these roles haven't vanished entirely, they've become increasingly scarce. According to the Auto Retail Network's Report, which meticulously tracks senior OEM executives across 34 brands, the number of dedicated fleet bosses has dwindled significantly. In early 2020, just before the pandemic, 20 manufacturers boasted a dedicated fleet boss. Fast forward to 2023, and that number had dropped to 13, with two more departures since then, signalling a staggering 45% decline in just four years. Like many of us in the PSV sector, we tend to fall into the industry by accident and never seem to leave! This is certainly the case for our Commercial Manager, Daniel Lunn (MILT) (AMCIHT), and CEO, Sam Wharfe FRSA FCILT. What’s even more interesting is that it’s a similar story for Whippet's General Manager, Ed Cameron. During a visit to see Ed at his Cambridgeshire depot, we discussed career journeys and anecdotes about our interesting past lives. We also touched on wider topics beyond driver recruitment, including market issues that need to be considered for the future but affect today's policies and plans. After all, investing in the wrong technology could prove to be a real headache down the road. Vehicle investment is key to Whippet, but all decisions are calculated and well-considered. Electrification has been established in Ed’s garage for some time, but it’s brought its own set of challenges. However, as Ed explained, he’s managed to navigate these issues with a pragmatic approach. Ed isn’t shy about investing in the right areas. He explained his plan to streamline the business by reducing much of the paper-based processes, utilising a carefully selected network of key industry experts and suppliers. While Ed and his team at Whippet clearly embrace change, they recognise that none of their systems or vehicles are any good without reliable people to back them up. We’re behind you all the way, Ed. Here’s to more collaboration and innovation! Don't forget to come and see us at EURO BUS EXPO in November, stand 395. We look forward to seeing you there.
