Modal - Coffee & Hostel is making some big changes over the next 3 months, so why the shift? Let me explain: 1. Healthy Businesses Evolve 🪴 - We set out to create a hostel product in a market that had nothing like it, so we learned a ton about how shared lodging works in Greenville, SC and how it doesn't. Right now, it's a product that has presented more challenges than we had anticipated (not to mention we opened during a pandemic), so adapting to a private Guesthouse has more long-term benefits. 2. Not All Plans Pan Out 🗺️ - As an entrepreneur, I'm well aware of my limitations. Sometimes things work, and sometimes they don't. Our goals when we opened the coffeeshop aspect of the business was to help drive foot traffic to the hostel, provide our guests an amenity, and off-set the staffing expenses with a second revenue stream. All three of these worked, for a time. Now it's no longer sustainable so we're closing the coffee shop to reduce operational costs and streamline our product as a Guesthouse. 3. Technology Works, Use It 📱 - We took a lot of time and care in creating an operational plan that included software & hardware that would make the guest experience ideal, streamline operational efficiencies, and ultimately reduce expenses. Each tool in our tech stack has a specific function, so as we shift I'm rethinking the most critical steps in our guest experience and upgrading to tools that make operations as simple as possible while cutting out dead weight. Our new guest self-checkin will utilize keypad lock technology as well as digital guest communication through Cloudbeds integrations which will save me thousands in staff & operational overhead.
