🌿 Update on California's New PFAS Legislation! 🌿 California is taking further steps to regulate Forever Chemicals with the recent signing of two bills by Governor Gavin Newsom. 🔹 AB 347 introduces enforcement for PFAS bans and labeling requirements for covered products, including juvenile items, textiles, and food packaging. Manufacturers must register their products with the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) by July 1, 2029, and demonstrate compliance with PFAS restrictions. Enforcement begins on July 1, 2030, giving manufacturers time to adjust to new requirements. 🔹 AB 2515, also known as the TAMPON Act, prohibits the manufacture and sale of menstrual products containing regulated PFAS. Starting January 1, 2025, manufacturers must ensure their products comply, with an expanded definition of regulated PFAS coming in 2027. Together, these measures represent a proactive approach to protecting public health and the environment. 💚 #California #PFAS #Regulations #Sustainability #PublicHealth

With increasing velocity, we see states, rather than the federal government, make the decision to ban ingredients and chemicals such as FPAS from manufactured goods. In 2018, Washington became the first state in the nation to restrict the use of firefighting foam that contains PFAS. 24 states have now enacted similar laws, and in 2023 alone, 195 bills were introduced across dozens of legislatures seeking to require that products be PFAS-free. All of this has led to a field of uncertainty around PFAS chemicals and other ingredients, like Red Dye 3, banned by California last autumn. With this uncertainly, come chaos. It underlines the importance of manufacturers getting out ahead of any scientific or market concern before this patchwork of regulatory action is taken. https://lnkd.in/egXV62ED

The EU is taking a strong stand by endorsing a ban on Bisphenol A #BPA in #FoodContactMaterials. Set to take effect at the close of 2024, the EU-wide ban will include transition periods to allow manufacturers the opportunity to create safer options. > There are also limited exceptions to the ban if there are no available safe alternatives to BPA, such as in plastic filtration membranes for ensuring the microbiological safety of some foods. 🗨️ “Simply put, this will protect the health of European citizens,” said the EU’s Jonathan Briggs – adding that the bloc is now planning revisions to its “entire food contact materials legislation.” 💡Why not download our free #whitepaper for the latest on FCMs – including new research, hazard assessments and testing approaches: https://okt.to/VFJCW8 – and check out our fresh new BPA #ReferenceMaterial: https://okt.to/dPBc4O 📰Read the news: https://okt.to/NJmfXE #FoodSafety #FCCs #ScienceForaSaferWorld
