A little hack I realised lately: I always wondered how #airplanes determined which #routes to go to reach a #destination. I had this funny musing seeing as the air is simply vast open #space without paved #roads, #railtracks, #footpaths or #cycletracks etc as we are accustomed to on #land So how did they determine which way to #fly once they were #airborne, also considering that multiple #trajectories could lead to the same place? So, it turns out there is something called #airrights, just like we have #landrights #searights and even #undergroundrights. Who owns the land rights owns whatever is beneath and above it, in this case the air space. Airlines apply and acquire #commercial #passage #rights with countries that allows them to pass through their #airspace and not be treated as an #invader. Once these MOUs are perfected, tower connections are registered between each country's airspace control tower and the airlines such that every time they need to fly through the country, the #control #tower does not flag them as #intruders This is one of the reasons explaining why two #airlines departing from the same country and headed for the same destination could take different routes to get there. They each have to chart through the country whose airspace they have acquired commercial passage rights. Other reasons may be #economic #political etc factors as well. I just figured🤣🤣 Image credit: Britannica Encyclopedia
