🌟 New Challenge Alert! 🌟How might we get the Danish consumers and companies to consider buying used electronics instead of new? Paving the way towards a more circular future Electronic Reuse and Recycling is working hard to prolong the life of our discarded but still very functional electronic hardware. Having a strong partnership and setup for collecting and repairing what we throw away, the main problem is actually getting us consumers to consider buying used electronics instead of new. “We all have a responsibility to limit our resource consumption. We need to change our mindset so that the products we dispose of are no longer seen as waste, but instead as valuable items to be integrated into the circular economy. This is essential for achieving a more sustainable development. We need to consume fewer resources, and we can do that by reusing more. Therefore, it is very important that the purchase of used electronics also becomes part of the Danish consumer's mindset when, for example, we need to buy a drill or something for our kitchen. When our facility is fully built, we will annually extract approximately 60,000 units for reuse. We would like to contribute to 'cracking the code' on how to get Danish consumers and Danish companies to think about reuse before they think about buying new. Excited to share the publication of a case study I co-wrote during my time as a research assistant at HEC Paris, exploring the transformative potential of sustainable business models! 🔄 One of the biggest challenges we face today is showing that sustainability isn't just a moral imperative, but also a smart business move. Our case study focuses on Desso's pioneering journey into circular economy since 2012, showcasing how sustainability can drive long-term competitive advantage. 🔍 Key insights include: 1️⃣ Redesigning products for recyclability and integrating new processes. 2️⃣ Transitioning from product sales to pay-per-use models and implementing end-of-life recycling. 3️⃣ Collaboration with competitors and suppliers for reverse logistics and technology sharing. Tarkett has big news!  This is going to change how we view recycling post consumer flooring waste. Turning Wool Waste into Walls Every year, approx 100.000 Tons wool go to waste—a natural resource destroyed instead of harnessed. But what if this wool could be given a second, third or even fourthed life? What if it could isolate the very walls around us? ULDTOPIA, a 20 min documentary by Genskin Creative Studio, explores how discarded wool is being reimagined. At Det Vilde Spinderi, we’re using locally sourced wool to create solutions for soundproofing and insulating buildings. This film dives into the incredible potential of wool. It’s a reminder that innovation can turn “waste” into something extraordinary, and that environmental responsibility starts with rethinking what we throw away. The Grow It Yourself helmet, designed by the Mexico City-based NOS Design studio, offers an innovative, sustainable solution for urban mobility. This bio-fabricated helmet is made from mycelium, the root system of mushrooms, which is lightweight and provides cushioning similar to traditional foam materials like EPS. One of the helmet's standout features is that it is completely compostable, unlike conventional helmets which are typically made from non-biodegradable materials. The idea emerged from the need for temporary protective gear within alternative mobility systems, such as bike and scooter-sharing services, which often lack adequate protection options. NOS collaborated with Polybion, a company that developed Fungicel, a mycelium-based material that mimics foam's cushioning properties while being environmentally friendly. While the helmet was initially intended for children, it can also be used by adults. Once it's no longer needed, the helmet can be easily composted, making it an eco-friendly alternative to plastic helmets. SIRIM need to test this helmet.
