If you get things wrong, apologise, fix it and make sure it doesn't happen again. If you apologise, make sure you're authentic. Unfortunately, Fortnum & Mason have struggled with that this week. After being called out for only invited Olympians to their celebration event, they said they'd apologised and would be arranging a separate event for the Paralympians. We're really here fortunate to work with, amongst others, organisations like Mencap, RNIB and Scope who organisations advocate for equality, equity and inclusion, but as we know, actions speak louder than words. That's why we do everything we can to make sure all potential learners can access our programmes, including learners with all types of disabilities and learning difficulties. The disparity between how Paralympic and Olympic athletes are treated is clear, and was shown by this story last week, highlighted by Zac Shaw. True equality means creating environments where everyone has access and opportunity, without compromise. Story linked below. #DEI #Equity #Equality

The practice of sport is recognised as a human right in the Olympic Charter, to be enjoyed by all without discrimination of any kind, and the United Nations Human Rights Council has acknowledged the potential for sport to cultivate human rights, combat discrimination and contribute to sustainable development. The Paralympic Games play an important role in promoting human rights in sport via increasing the representation, diversity and inclusion of athletes with disabilities. In this article, Partner and National Pro Bono Team Leader, Chris Owen and Associate, Summer Walker, explore the history and development of the Paralympic Games, the human rights framework which underpins it, as well as the challenging role of the International Paralympic Committee in balancing the right to inclusivity and participation with the need to protect athletes with disabilities from system exploitation. In the U.K., many organisations advocate for equality, but as we know, actions speak louder than words. This gap is especially evident in the fitness industry’s appetite for accessibility and in the persistent disparities between support for Paralympic and Olympic athletes. How can we ensure the largest minority group in our country—the disabled community— is treated fairly when these inequalities continue to prevail? It’s time for tangible change and accountability. True equality means creating environments where everyone has access and opportunity, without compromise. Let’s hold ourselves and our industries to higher standards, building an inclusive future that benefits all. https://lnkd.in/e9GvK6AT
