FIRST JOB CHRONICALS!😄 Before we go far, what is one situation where you had to stretch yourself at your first job? 🤔 My first job was as a cashier at Uchumi Supermarkets at the soft age of nineteen. Let. Me. Tell. You. That was true character development. In all ways! Christmas Eve was one of the most trying days at work for the years I toiled there. Cues would go from Aga Khan Walk to almost Bus Station! Can you imagine? But handling money as a cashier was the training I needed, to know how to handle other people's money as a Wealth Manager. In the video I did about My First Salary (https://lnkd.in/dFYaK_xu) and the impact my childhood had on my money, I discovered how the money from the first job was a test of character to bring me where I am today. Watch it and tell me what you think! #Abby #wealthhub #firstjob #childhoodandmoney

There's this old lady who comes around our office premises every couple of days, hawking groundnuts and 'caramel'. I bought from her a few times, so she made it a habit to stop by my office each time she has snacks to sell, and each time, I will buy. Sometimes I bought for my colleagues as well. However, one isolated time she came and I didn't have cash handy. So I asked her to drop a bottle or two and collect her cash the next time she passes by, in a few days' time, and she declined. I thought I was doing her a favour by buying her snacks so I opted for credit out of sympathy. But she refused and so I stopped buying from that day on. But she relentlessly continued to stop by my office and make her offer. And each time, I'll say I don't need it. This isn't about whether I was right or wrong or kind or wicked but many businesses lose clients and potential clients because they mess up at the level of focus and timing. What your client pays you for service rendered is very important, as it is what keeps your business running on a daily basis especially in our purely capitalist context. However, the relationship you build with your client is what keeps your business running in the long run. If you want to sustain the short run, be smart with your cash. But if you want to play the long game, be wise in your relationships: your clients, your stakeholders, the Banks. #theEconomyofBliss #EdAfricaGroup

A dear friend once joked with me that my salary was “missing a 0.” 🥲 It really stuck with me that despite being in the right industry and getting repeated promotions, I might be underpaid, undervalued. Maybe I was cheap – high on impact, low on salary – an employer’s dream. Maybe I was just in the wrong occupation. Maybe it was none of or all of the above? Regardless, my limiting views were also impacting my reality… Like when I learned I was earning over $100K less annually than my “equal” partners. But this wasn’t the only time something like this had happened. No, it was the third or fourth time and it made these limiting beliefs feel like fact. I was both ashamed of my situation and of my lack of gratitude at the same time. (The median income in the US is $80K – how completely obtuse of me to feel like I don’t have enough?) And yet, I know I’m not the only one who feels this way or has had these experiences. I engaged Katy Chen Mazzara 4.5 years ago, because I wanted to explore what held me back from my full earning potential. Last week, I reconnected with Katy for a Women@Xoogler.co money talk hosted by Terry and me. We shared some of our earliest experiences with money; perceptions of being rich and poor; how that may have followed us (*me*) through life; the choices we made about jobs we took or didn’t; and what we could do now to start to shift our mindsets to one of unlimited earning potential. 💸 📈 I’m linking the video last—because it was a difficult convo for me. It makes me feel extremely vulnerable and I wanted to paint the context before you watch. To anyone who’s felt like they have struggled to keep up financially, taken on lower roles or salaries, hit career or salary ceilings, or just lost it all… this is for you. 📽️ Video: https://lnkd.in/gZkTt_zr 👩🏫 If you want to go deeper, Katy is hosting a *free* workshop next month. It’s a great way to explore your relationship with money: https://lnkd.in/gNu-cbdR 🖤 Written in the cover of darkness — shining a bright light on one of my biggest hang ups: money.

Thanks to my former client Stefanie Lau who invited me to talk to a group of incredibly smart, talented and astute Googlers and ex-Googlers. Stephanie shared her money story vulnerably, and many people in the group did so, as well, and you know what? This is how we change the way money is talked about in our world. Some people wanted to ask the more practical questions about investments and such, and that's OK too, since I definitely love to talk and teach about that, as well. However, I have to stress that you can read all of the books about investing, saving, taxes and all of the other "practical" pieces of money and yet, it may not actually change how much more money you make or how you save, invest or spend. Why? Because of your unconscious belief system and paradigms. Your belief system started in your childhood. Our parents and those around us taught us about money, even if they didn't really teach us about money. 👉 They taught it when they fought about it. 👉 They taught it when they were stressed out about it. 👉 They taught it when they were saying no to something you really wanted to do or saying no to going to an expensive out-of-state or even out-of-country university. These lessons created deeper beliefs about you, your worthiness, and what you deserve and don't deserve. If you want to learn more about what I am talking about and REALLY shift your relationship with money, so that you can make more, worry less and achieve true financial freedom, then come to my FREE workshop. December 8, 11 and 13. Link below and in the comments. See you there!

We need honesty and integrity. A fair days work for a fair days pay #competitoranalysis #businessinsights
