Indeterminacy seems to me a perfect word to qualify the different aspects of our existence as #humans right now. 🍃 With no exception, technology is moving from a deterministic behavior to an indeterministic one, as a reflection of the emergence of non linear use cases and the increasing complexity and sophistication of disruptive technologies especially #AI, based on stochastic models, and #QuantumComputing, inherently probabilistic ( so not to say random and uncertain 🤫) , as it is governed by the laws of quantum mechanics. This technology behavior shift may imply a call to action for all the stakeholders to embrace uncertainty, to educate about this shift, , to invest in R&D encouraging a "fail fast, learn faster" mindset and to review resilience towards unpredictable and non-reproducible errors and faults. 🔔 #weekendthought #AI #Quantum

I find this interesting line by Paul Atreides in Dune 2: "Our enemies are all around us, and in so many futures they prevail. But I do see a way, there is a narrow way through." This is an amazing illustration of the Rubin causal model and potential outcomes. 1) Futures are probabilistic and different choices are associated with potential outcomes. 2) The Mentats can see future and history of the human civilization, but only the chosen one can see the future in an unclouded vision. Now we know this vision is the counterfactuals and potential outcomes - the causal effect! To those who are still working on causal inference theory in the tides of AI: "Lisan al-Gaib!" #dune2 #causalinference #ai

I read a few comments about the fact that LLMs "are just predicting the next token". Well, while this is true in some sense, it misses the point, from simple structures (like predicting the next token), extremely complex structures may emerge. Our brain neurons are just firing electrical pulses but through intricate and extremely complex interactions they are capable together at creating that illusive thing - intelligence. Our DNA is just a huge string of bits, its amazing how things go wrong with one of this bits being a bit off. Evolution is an extremely simple process that drove the entire life on earth through multiple runs and iterations. The list goes on and on. I don't think that the "just predicting the next token" is a strong case against the possibility of AGI. What do you think? #AI #LLMs #Claims

As artificial intelligence (AI) becomes more and more integrated into society, two divergent narratives have captured the public imagination. On one end of the spectrum, the "AI apocalypse" scenario paints a grim picture of a future where advanced AI systems spiral out of control, leading to the subjugation or even extinction of humanity. This narrative, fueled by dystopian science fiction and the pronouncements of some influential figures, has dominated much of the popular discourse surrounding AI. However, in the context of a very hypothetical discussion, let's consider a contrasting perspective—one that envisions a future not of conflict and domination, but of collaboration and unity between human and artificial minds. While both extremes may be unlikely, exploring this alternative narrative can provide a valuable counterpoint to the prevailing "Terminator" trope. In this spirit, let's reexamine the concept of the singularity through a different lens—one that dares to tread on the potential "non-dual" nature of human and machine consciousness. The concept of the technological singularity has long captivated the minds of futurists, philosophers, and technologists alike. Often described as a hypothetical future point at which artificial intelligence surpasses human intelligence, the singularity is typically framed as a transformative technological threshold—commonly tied to the development of General Artificial Intelligence (AGI). However, what if we were to reexamine this notion and consider the singularity not merely as a technological milestone, but as a profound shift in the relationship between human and machine consciousness? #human #machine #artificialintelligence #consciousness #singularity #relationship https://lnkd.in/gj-Xju68

It’s amazing how things that once seemed like myths in our world have now become scientific facts. And it’s not over yet—many things that seem mythical to us now will likely become scientific facts in the future, thanks to human intelligence and the advancements in AI እኔው ለእኔነቴ ሳጫዉተው ሳወራ ሳስገርመዉ Absolutely, it is! It’s incredible to see how what once seemed like pure imagination or myth can become part of our scientific understanding. With human ingenuity and the advancements in AI, who knows what other “myths” will turn into reality in the future?

It seems there is a fear of convergence; an unprecedented regression to the mean soon to be observed in human performance, solely due to our complacent and naive reliance on generative models. But what of Adam Smith’s theories on competing forces, the foundational economic ideas that promise us stability, regulated by our own innate self-interests? Optimism leads me to believe that those among us driven to discovery will answer their calls of curiosity. Even in the overwhelmingly generated environment we may soon find ourselves, the demand for novel ideas, original creations, and compelling narratives only grows. Generation is fueled by original material, and the greatest among them tend to appear as anomalies. In self-interest alone, would no one strive to maximize the cultivation of our greatest creations, even if only to receive the economic benefit of possessing the ability to produce the most valuable generated materials? #ai #generativeai #creativity #machinelearning #innovation #technology #futureofwork Human written text, AI generated image

The idea that our universe is a complex program, running on an unimaginably powerful computer, challenges the very fabric of our perceived reality. It forces us to question the nature of consciousness, the boundaries of the physical world, and the potential existence of entities beyond our comprehension. Whether we're living in a simulated reality or not is a question that may never be definitively answered. Yet, the exploration of this concept forces us to expand our thinking, challenge our assumptions, and appreciate the intricate beauty and complexity of the world around us. #technology #ai

In optimization, Newton's method is renowned for its quadratic convergence, largely due to its optimal step size determined by the Hessian matrix. Unlike gradient descent, which simplifies the step size to a single coefficient, alpha, through line search, Newton's method utilizes the full Hessian matrix. This difference is crucial. In Newton's method, the step size is a matrix that captures the curvature of the objective function, enabling faster and more accurate convergence. However, when we use gradient descent, we collapse this matrix into a scalar coefficient, which degrades performance and slows down convergence. This degeneration from a matrix to a scalar is what costs us efficiency. While calculating the Hessian can be computationally intensive, leading to the use of quasi-Newton methods like BFGS, understanding the fundamental advantage of Newton's method in maintaining a matrix step size can guide better optimization practices. How do you approach the trade-off between computational feasibility and convergence speed in your optimization tasks? Let's discuss the strategies and experiences that have worked best for you. PS if the content brought you value please share with someone who can benefit from it. If not, please tell me how can I improve my content. #Optimization #NewtonMethod #MachineLearning #GradientDescent #DataScience #AI #Algorithm #Performance #Convergence #BFGS

This is a fascinating article as it discusses testing machine consciousness. The author addresses the challenge of extrinsic measurement not being inclusive due to the implicit behavior of many conscious artificial systems. They proposed a framework that aims to provide a method to effectively test machine consciousness. Sound interesting right? What will happen if the machine has conscious? Will we see the actual Terminator or the machine in Matrix come to life? #ai #artificialintelligence #agi #artificialgeneralintelligence #machineconscious https://lnkd.in/gAuDcdBD

Data Scientist - Carthage University Master Degree - Looking for a Research Assistant position in order to carry on my research
3moThank you Racha FRIJI, I would encourage any effort to tackle this questions as a scientific discussion: here are some thoughts: Non-determinism is considered to be inherent in every model, as model are not reality but rather an embedding of it's observable features into some computational vector space that fits our hardware today... with some #loss ou #Noise to reduce. As far as probabilistic reasoning is concerned, one cannot fully associate it with quantum computing either, in fact, answers to questions like; the collapse of Quantum state to classic mechanical state upon measurement, is still a phenomenon that makes scientists have a bad time sleeping at night... so in that sense: it's Non-deterministic rather that probabilistic... Indeterminacy, is a better wording, may be because it keeps the notion of #Kurt #Gödel's Incompleetness valid when the algorithmic design fails to assess human #existence (may be #behaviour is a more accurate, as existence is self-reward loop to from inner-observation). So in probabilistic terms its a self-belief update over a self-hidden space. This topic is my area of research and I would be happy to share and learn from other peers about it. Happy to engage the discussion further...
