From a model green school targeting a 40 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions to the retrofit of a rooftop cooling unit with novel liquid desiccant technology, several innovative ideas for addressing decarbonization in the built environment were on display at the Wells Fargo Innovation Incubator (IN2) inaugural Scalable Tech Track program’s final showcase this week. The event was held in Golden, Colorado, at the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Renewable Energy Laboratory, which administers and houses the program. Thornton Tomasetti Managing Principal and Senior Advisor Tom Scarangello had the tough task of serving as one of the judges for the program, created in collaboration with Overlay Capital, that awards grants to early-stage clean technology entrepreneurs to accelerate adoption. These IN2 clean tech ideas will help address today’s climate challenges and position us for a better tomorrow. Well done to all who took part in the presentations! Ørsted has developed a groundbreaking lower-noise installation method for offshore wind projects, using patented jetting technology. Successfully tested at Gode Wind 3 Offshore Wind Farm in Germany, this innovation significantly reduces underwater noise, enhancing marine life protection. Patrick Harnett, Executive VP and COO, stated, “This new technology is a potential game changer for how we build offshore wind." Ørsted’s collaboration with Jan De Nul Group and Aarsleff marks a milestone in the industry, potentially revolutionising offshore wind foundation installation. #Ørsted #OffshoreWind #SustainableEnergy #MarineProtection #GreenTechnology #Innovation #RenewableEnergy #GodeWind3 #PatrickHarnett #JettingTechnology #JanDeNulGroup #Aarsleff #WindFarm #CleanEnergy #EnvironmentalProtection #RenewableInnovation #Germany #WindEnergy #Biodiversity #GreenInnovation https://lnkd.in/dvepwpaA
🤫 Shh! We’ve got big news, but we’re keeping our voices down. That’s because we’ve invented a novel technology for installing monopile foundations on our offshore wind projects with even lower noise. For decades, we’ve been deploying measures to build sustainably and protect ocean life. With this new technology, we’re introducing the next generation of nature-friendly installation methods. The system uses a patented jetting technology attached to the monopile to lower the resistance of the sandy soil, further reducing noise during installation. We’ve successfully tested this innovative method at our Gode Wind 3 Offshore Wind Farm in Germany, marking a milestone on our net-positive biodiversity journey and a potential game changer for how to build offshore wind. Great to see Ørsted's new lower-noise installation method. This could dramatically reduce the noise levels during the installation of monopile foundations, further mitigating potential impacts on marine mammals and other marine life. EPI Group is currently providing marine mammal observers and protected species observers for a number of global offshore wind projects, so we know that this is an important issue for the industry as it grows in a way that is harmonious for nature. #offshorewind #energytransition #renewableenergy #marine #epigroup
