When it comes to housing policy (and many other policies), elections matter SO much. Our Founder has personally worked with Mayor Breed's office and many of the Supervisors over the past years and has first hand knowledge of which candidates will be best for our great city. Her efforts in tracking legislation have clearly highlighted the positions of each Supervisor. No one has done more for housing reform than Mayor Breed. Her team is incredibly knowledgeable about the permitting and planning processes and has been very proactive in getting permit timelines streamlined for her entire tenure. If you're frustrated with the state of the City, it's important to remember the Mayor is limited by the Board of Supervisors. If a moderate Mayor, like Mayor Breed, is counterbalanced by a "progressive" Board like the one we've had, then very little can be accomplished. Often Supervisor elections come down to just a hundred votes. That's why every single vote counts. We hope you'll join us in voting for moderates across the board including: Mayor Breed (really anyone except Aaron Peskin please) Marjan Philhour: District 1 Danny Sauter: District 3 Bilal Mahmood: District 5 Matt Boschetto: District 7 Trevor Chandler: District 9 Michael Lai: District 11 Don't just take our word for it, Grow SF has put together a terrific voter guide. https://lnkd.in/g3N2iu34 #VOTE #ElectionsMatter #ModerateDemocratsPlease #HousingReform

#cityofperth check your letterbox! It's time to vote. The “Extraordinary Election” process is now underway to fill a vacant Council spot, following the resignation of a Councillor. Voting ballots have now been mailed by the City of Perth to registered voters. Link to my update here: https://lnkd.in/g9_D8pZ4 Voter turnout is typically low in the City of Perth. There are many reasons why people don’t vote. One of them is because they don’t know anyone on the ballot paper. Who am I voting for? I will be voting for Dave Lee and Jason Bo, both of whom I have gotten to know over the past few years. I know they are committed to the City, its residents and businesses. I know they will bring relevant experience and skills to the Council. And I know they are both Independent Candidates. They are not affiliated with any political party and they are not interested in the politics of division. Dave Lee and Jason Bo are both committed to representing their community. While this election is for just one Council spot, preferential voting is available - so if you decide to vote for Dave Lee and Jason Bo just place the numbers “1” and “2” next to their names, in order of preference. You need to complete the voting ballot and mail it back to the City of Perth, allowing enough time so that it arrives before 18 October 2024. #cityofperth #perthcommunity #independent #eastperth #westperth #perthcbd #northbridge #nedlands #crawley

National politics ebb and flow depending on contemporary circumstances, how parties are perceived, and a general balance of nature. It is unusual for parties to hold sway over long periods of time, so it's helpful to keep an eye on the thermometer to gauge the temperature of the electorate. Governing wrote about the political shift in one county that had been a democratic stronghold to one voting for Trump's reelection. #politics #politicalshifts #politicalbalance #governace #electorate #constituencies #reachingvoters https://lnkd.in/eW6qSe5t

We are in election mode already, with announcements and signals from some part of our great state almost every day of the week. The ABC’s Antony Green pointed out recently that ‘the political geography of Queensland for state elections is that Labor must hold seats in regional cities along the state’s coast to win a majority.’ This would seemingly include Cairns, Townsville, Rockhampton, Mackay, and Bundaberg seats. Theoretically, there are not enough seats in inner-city Brisbane to compensate for missing out on victories in regional cities in this scenario. The battlegrounds for 2024 would therefore normally be two-pronged: up north and inner Brisbane (where the Greens could play an interesting role). Everywhere else is usually pretty well accounted for. However, the recent by-election swings have introduced a significant element of unpredictability. These swings, could potentially move the safely contested seats, as they did in 2012 and again in 2015, and were among the biggest in electoral history! One went the way of the LNP, and one went back to Labor. Current polling suggests the former is most likely on this occasion, but there is still a long way to go, and as Elle Goulding likes to remind us, ‘ Anything could happen!’. At Q Shelter we’ll be talking to anyone aspiring to political office, that has an interest in continuing to solve for our #Housing and #Homelessness challenges. Whilst there is already generational investment occurring right now, we have decades to catch up on, and there is still a lot more to do 🙌 🏡 🗳️ #2024StateElection #Queensland #LotsToPlayOut #HomeMatters #BetterTogether

Last week, I spoke at what was my probably my last committee hearing at Cheltenham Borough Council with the Liberal Democrats. It has been a privilege and an honour to be represent Battledown, not least as the first Lib Dem to do so. Being elected will always stand as one of the proudest moments of my life. But this year, I will not be standing for re-election. My election garnered a little more media attention than usual, thanks to becoming one of the youngest councillors at 27. It’s unusual to see someone standing for local office without grey hair! The average age for a councillor is 60; 16 per cent are aged under 45, and 42 per cent are aged over 65. I’m hoping that the political fever of the 2024 election year could mean that those figures could improve after the local elections on the 2nd of May. Local politics is desperate for younger voices to speak for their towns and communities. Currently, plenty of younger voters don't bother to turn up to polling stations for local elections. I don't think there's ever been such apathy. But there’s only one way to change this, and that’s to encourage younger people to enter the political arena through active participation - not just reposting Instagram stories. It’s not sexy nor glamorous, but it means knocking on doors, delivering leaflets, and writing to your MP; it could even mean standing to be a councillor! (Don't forget to register to vote and bring voter ID on the 2nd of May!) #localpolitics #liberaldemocrats #britishpolitics #cheltenhamcouncil

🗳️ **It's Time to Make Your Vote Count!** 🗳️ We hear it all the time: "My vote doesn’t matter." But have you thought about the impact of local elections? While national elections may feel distant, the issues affecting your everyday life are often decided by local officials—like city councils, school boards, and mayors. Housing policies, infrastructure, school funding, and more are all shaped at the local level, where every vote truly counts. 🏘️ Consider this: your city’s stance on attainable housing, zoning laws, and community development is directly influenced by your vote. It’s not just a national ballot that creates change; your local ballot is your chance to help shape the future of your neighborhood. So, don’t let this opportunity pass you by. Voting locally is a powerful way to make a real difference. Vote for the change you want to see right in your own community. ✨ #VoteLocally #MakeADifference #YourVoteMatters

Housing availability and affordability issues will not go away after November 5th. If anything, these issues should be a top priority for our newly elected officials to get to work on. No matter the outcome, there will be opportunities and challenges presented to the industry over the coming years. We are hopeful that the solutions we present can find agreement from both sides of the aisle. Vote Pro-Housing!

It’s concerning to see misinformation being provided to electors in this City of Perth Extraordinary Election. There’s a candidate claiming to be running a “genuine independent campaign” - but what does that actually mean? It doesn’t mean politically independent that’s for sure. Steve is a member of the Liberal Party. And it doesn’t mean he’s not aligned with others that’s also for sure. Steve is aligned with Bruce Reynolds, a current Councillor who also happens to be a Liberal Party member and President of the Perth Branch of the Liberal Party. (Bruce took 3 attempts to be elected as a Councillor, each time claiming he was “Independent” …) And it doesn’t mean he’s not aligned with other candidates that’s also for sure. He seems to pop up at the same events as two others. Read more in my newsletter - link here: https://lnkd.in/gpmDq62p It raises a few questions: 1. Do some Candidates think people won’t vote for them if the voters know they’re a member of a political party? Is this why they hide the truth? 2. If they are prepared to hide the truth before an election, what happens when they are elected? #honesty #transparency #perthcity #eastperth #westperth #perthcbd #northbridge #nedlands #crawley

Civic Duty Leave a reply Another Provincial election is upon us, October 19th, 2024. I voted early, last weekend. I’ll never get tired of pushing the idea that it is not just a privilege but a civic duty to vote. I wish there were tax fines for not voting. It costs an Australian about $80 to not vote. They get 90% or more people voting. Meanwhile, we’ve been on a decline in BC, which is representative of most of Canada. [chart on my blog] I wish people understood how fortunate we are to be able to vote in an open and free election. When I hear things like, “My vote doesn’t matter.” Or, “All the candidates/parties are the same.” Or any other excuse, I feel the speaker is missing the point. We live in a democracy. We have a choice of representation, and we have a duty to cast our vote for the person who represents us. If we don’t vote, we are literally shrugging off a responsibility we have. We are dismissing a duty placed on us. We don’t do that at work, why do we think it’s ok to do that in our community? Unsure who to vote for? This non-partisan website, (originally created by a student at our school years ago, and still maintained for elections across Canada), is a great place to start: http://votemate.org _____ Shared on my Daily-Ink blog: https://lnkd.in/gcxBWhmP
