This might be a highly unpopular opinion, but… I’ve noticed the RevOps community has been fighting in recent days on whether they are building Revenue Engines or Revenue Factories. My take on this topic is extremely simple - does the terminology actually matter? Isn’t it more important that we, people in RevOps, are building motions that deliver value, revenue growth, and results? And I am asking myself - are you even building anything if you have time to waste on such discussions? I don’t know about others, but I am usually pretty busy making sure that everything works in the best possible way, that we are simplifying and streamlining processes, bringing the right tooling and the right data at the right moments, and educating or upskilling myself and people around me - not discussing whether it’s engine or factory or whatnot other buzzword is next. Couldn't agree more! A friend recently called in from a Fintech in Singapore asking to help him hire a RevOps/CRM admin/Project Manager who will be managing 8 tools in their tech stack. I just told him that you're setting this role up for failure. Every job has its nuances and specialisations. With Marketing/Revenue Ops at times the task and challenges are very open ended but with real time expertise expected with every platform along with cross functional collaboration and alignment with various goals. Behind the scene there's always lots of mysteries being solved and imposters being unmasked with respect to data, different integrations, various custom functions and formulas. Often we're also the team that says no to tech stack that might look cool, AI and all. But might not solve the problem. Collect data, Connect with stakeholders, Convince them about the ROI and Value. That's 24*7, and trust this becomes a habit 😅 So long story short, that's also why we're expanding and hiring Marketing Operations Manager at Clevertap who might just be a part of all that if not more. I know folks have been reaching out to me a lot and I haven't gotten back because we're interviewing really great candidates and we are waiting to go through the first batch before I get trapped by the network commitment.
