Stations should be smart, green and easy to use. Tune in 🎧 as our rail gurus John Versace, NDY’s global Transport Market Sector Director; Robert Bartlett, our NSW Transport Market Sector Leader; and Directors Michael Priest and Anthony Badr share insights on integrated station developments, advanced engineering and how we're making rail travel more efficient and enjoyable than ever. Our team delves into the ripple effects of well-connected rail stations on local communities and economies—from boosting local businesses to creating sustainable living options, the impact is profound. Plus, we're tackling the big questions: How do we design stations that are not only efficient (such as those with overtop or adjacent developments) but also a joy to use? And how do we ensure these spaces evolve with our cities? A safe system approach is not complete without appropriate speed limits. It why I’m proud that in the Netherlands, after years of careful considerations, we now have a new road category that is suitable for multimodal traffic in urban environments. A big positive step forwards after all, safe speeds do save lives. After years of successful experience with 30km/h zones in residential zones and pedestrian and cycle dominated areas we now too have possibilities to create a road network with multimodal access roads with fitting speed limits of 30km/h. Royal HaskoningDHV has now got the experience to analyse and design a road network from a holistic view which considers the interest of various stakeholders and perspectives, such as the public transport impacts, the cycle and pedestrian community and driver behaviour. Curious? Look at our projects in a Dutch traffic context. Rob West, our Managing Partner, recently participated in the Bisnow panel on ‘Retrofitting for the Future’ at the iconic retrofitted 7 Devonshire Square. Rob highlighted the significant carbon savings from our retrofit of The Kodak in London — approximately 240 kilograms of carbon per square meter, compared to 800-1,000 kilograms for new builds of the same size – underscoring the importance of retrofitting existing structures to combat the climate crisis. Read the full coverage here: https://bit.ly/3W5wsmS This Net Zero Week, we are reaffirming our commitment to sustainability in real estate. Retrofitting is a challenging yet essential part of our sustainability strategy, and we are dedicated to overcoming the financial and structural hurdles to create a greener future. #NetZeroWeek #Sustainability #Clearbell #Retrofitting #ClimateAction #RealEstate

Less time spent in traffic congestion means a better quality of life! The paradox is that building more roads does not reduce congestion but produces even more road traffic. But what can we do to avoid traffic once and for all? The answer is provided in a stronger urban and transport planning integration that provides mixed land-use neighbourhoods and walkable streets. Over the last 60 years, Dornier has actively followed the vision of a holistic urban and transport planning in new developments in the MENA region as well as in historical European cities. As part of our mini-series on the mobility transition, we will reflect on harnessing synergies between urban and transport planning to improve future traffic conditions. 🚝 Innovative Technology in Transport: Very Light Rail (VLR) 🚝 At Nota Bene we are inspired by innovation and Very Light Rail (VLR) is a topic which has certainly caught our eye. Here’s why we think VLR is revolutionising urban transport with its innovative approach to mobility: 💡Lightweight Design: VLR systems are significantly lighter than traditional rail, reducing infrastructure costs and wear on tracks. 💡Energy Efficiency: VLR uses advanced materials and efficient propulsion systems, making it more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly. 💡Cost-Effective: Lower construction and maintenance costs make VLR a viable option for cities looking to improve their transport networks without breaking the bank. 💡Flexible Implementation: VLR can be integrated into existing urban landscapes with minimal disruption, offering flexible solutions for city planners. 💡Sustainability: By reducing carbon emissions and promoting public transport, VLR supports sustainable urban development. Urban Transport Group have a interesting blog on the topic the link can be found below to find out more. https://ow.ly/a9Ir50RY8GL 🚄 #TransportTech #Innovation #VeryLightRail #SustainableTransport #FutureOfTransport *Image used from Urban Transport Group website*
