At Post Op, we want to deliver results for hospitals, clinicians and patients backed up by evidence and research. Our latest paper outlines positive impacts on patients following elective arthroplasty at Kettering General Hospital. All the patients had either total knee or hip replacements, and over 80% said they felt more confident in their recovery at home by using the Post Op app, and more than 97% would recommend the app to others. At a time when waiting lists are high and hospitals and clinicians are working extremely hard to treat patients, it's heartening to know that patients recognise the value of an app that is designed to put them at the forefront of their care. We look forward to more opportunities with clinicians on how Post Op can help manage peri-operative care. Journal link: https://lnkd.in/d4nNjW9e

During 2024 we worked hard at Post Op, to change behaviours in surgical care. We challenged the perception that the ‘patient experience’ is not as important as service related metrics like, reducing length of stay and reducing waiting times. We realised that if patients experience great care and have easy access to this care, they do not feel the need to rush back to hospitals. It is counter-intuitive, I know… but patients do not like rushing back to hospitals for no reason! They rush back only when they find access to their GPs and their clinical teams are curtailed. Most patients understand hospitals are busy and are ever so apologetic for attending, even if they have a genuine need to be in hospital. Clinicians know that clinical care can often be compromised in the chase to meet ‘targets’. Therefore, we should let them decide what targets are clinically relevant, and let them be budget holders for procurement of digital tools they need to provide care for their patients. In 2025, I hope we can all work together to rebuild trust in our health service.

At Boston Scientific, we work to make sure that our devices can help the most people possible – including advocating for new codes for certain endoscopic defect closure procedures. We are proud to share that Medicare has approved a new HCPCS code (C9901) for defect closure procedures* within the GI tract, which may incorporate devices from Boston Scientific's defect closure portfolio – including the MANTIS™ Clip, OverStitch™ NXT, and X-Tack™. We will continue our advocacy work, as appropriate reimbursement helps to improve patient access and remove barriers for physicians to select devices which are most clinically appropriate for the procedure and for the patient. To learn more, contact your Boston Scientific representative: https://bit.ly/3CYGpMY *As of July 1, 2024. #Endoscopy

Frank & Lizzie interview Dr. Shaun Carpenter MD, FAPWCA, CWSP , CEO of MedCentris, LIVE, from the SAWC Fall in Las Vegas. Dr. Carpenter shares with the audience his most recent publication titled, “Evaluating the number of cellular and/or tissue-based product applications required to treat diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers in non-hospital outpatient department settings.” in Wounds August 2024. This research examines how the number of CTP applications in various care settings influenced wound closure and reduction in wound area. This study provides valuable insights into optimizing treatment strategies for chronic wounds, such as DFUs and VLUs, which are challenging to heal. The data emphasizes the critical role of CTPs in improving outcomes as part of a clinical decision tree for “non-healers” without being wasteful. The work is essential in guiding clinical practices and future research in wound management. Be sure to stay tuned for more research from Dr. Carpenter and his MedCentris team. Be sure to like and subscribe to The Frank and Lizzie Show for the latest updates and newest episodes.
