Tis the season for… Christmas parties Year end reflections And… surprises! Yesterday, I hosted lunch for a bunch of my clients and felt giddy with gratitude for knowing these humans and for the really interesting mahi we have done together so far. It was super rewarding to have them meet and share their 2024 experiences across some incredible food, it'll become an annual event for sure. Thanks Tony McGeorge & Krish for the Cafe Hanoi deliciousness… While the first half of 2024 sucked, big time. The second half has, on reflection, been pretty damn epic. And, I have more in the pipe for 2025 than I have had at this time of the year in any of the previous four. In the mix are three governance roles, three Fractional gigs, a bunch of fascinating projects and a partridge in a pear tree... I am beyond relieved that this is where I find myself, given mid-year I wondered if this might be my last as a RunningMate. And, then right at the tinsel end of the year, something came up with a client that I haven’t encountered before. It stopped me in my tracks, and had me looking for a metaphoric handbook, unsure where to put the next foot. The learnings in the surprise…? So far I have three - 1) Expect anything - after all our businesses are often an extension of the messy human condition, 2) Look people in the eyes and ask if they are doing ok, then keep asking if you're worried, and 3) Ensure there are guardrails designed into your businesses - financial controls, fall back plans and good people around, ready to support you and your team when sh*t gets real. We're humans, we can fall off the path, and truly no business is worth finding yourself backed into a corner fighting for your life for without a known path forward, or back. Deep breath… Now, all I want for Christmas is fresh cherries, a good book, and a new running cap. How about y’all?

1 year anniversary!
