Please consider donating to the Baltimore Community Foundation's Maryland Tough Baltimore Strong Key Bridge Fund if you are able. After the tragic collapse of the Key Bridge, the BCF created this fund to "provide a secure way for Baltimoreans and those who care for them to contribute to the recovery and resilience of Baltimore". 100% of all donated funds will go towards the following immediate and ongoing needs: • Families: BCF will work with the Baltimore Civic Fund and credible efforts to strengthen the immediate relief provided to families. BCF’s focus will be on addressing residual and long-lasting effects for children of the deceased and survivors. • First Responders: Support for civilian tugboat operators, law enforcement and members of the U.S. Coast Guard whose needs will emerge in the weeks and months to come. • Port Workers: BCF will identify the right partners for cash assistance, employment and job placement and provide support to port workers who have been displaced. Support will augment any relief from government to address this need. • Small Businesses: Small businesses in Southeast Baltimore County communities (ie. Dundalk, Essex, and Edgemere) will face significant disruption. As the issues facing the local economy come into focus, the Fund will be positioned to provide relief in terms of technical assistance and other forms of relief to support this vital sector. • Memorializing the Tragedy: An important part of healing and resilience, BCF is exploring conversations about how to best memorialize the meaning and legacy of the symbol of the port, the Key bridge, the victims, and all those affected.

Setting up an ethical financial framework for nonprofits involves establishing policies, procedures, and practices that prioritize transparency, integrity, and accountability in financial management. This includes adopting ethical principles, such as honesty, fairness, and stewardship, as guiding values for financial decision-making. Additionally, it entails implementing robust internal controls, oversight mechanisms, and reporting systems to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, mitigate financial risks, and safeguard the organization's assets. By promoting a culture of ethical conduct and responsible financial stewardship, nonprofits can enhance trust, credibility, and sustainability, ultimately advancing their mission and impact. #cnrgaccountingadvisory #nonprofitethics #transparencymatters #accountablenonprofits #ethicalfinance #charityaccountability #nonprofittransparency #ethicalcharity #donortrust #financialoversight

📢 Nonprofit legitimacy: when the grounds for it shift, and why it matters 📢 What if our badge of legitimacy no longer holds? *Legitimacy* is that intangible quality that every nonprofit must grapple with to gain trust and authority in a world where societal values are constantly evolving. After all, society decides whether organizations are desirable, proper, and appropriate, based on a set of assumptions or perceptions that can change. Gone are the days when aligning with a few key foundations for legitimacy (with financial propriety and low overhead featured centrally) was enough to wear the badge of legitimacy. During a recent ‘First Fridays with a Thought Leader’ session at Corentus, Inc., the team coaching company where I am a Core Practitioner, I presented on shifts in NGOs’ foundations for legitimacy. There’s a video recap of my short presentation available here (also below; see min. 2 through 35): https://lnkd.in/eayFNYKm If you want a 2-page overview of these shifts in org legitimacy, you can get it here: https://lnkd.in/etT5NQWB Why focus so much on legitimacy? Our sector’s effectiveness hinges on it. If society doesn’t see the value in our work, our impact is severely diminished, like a tree falling unheard in a forest. Next up for leadership level questions: what does this shift mean for what we pay attention to, what we put resources towards, how we shape our culture, what our staff composition needs to look like, etc. Read more in my latest blog post here: https://lnkd.in/eVZv4mZq (including some exciting news about a second edition of our book 'Between Power and Irrelevance: the Future of Transnational NGOs!) How are you seeing these shifts in legitimacy playing out in your work environment? hashtag #legitimacy #trust #authority

Just when I was starting to think that my squiggly career path was no use... 📔 My work with young people helps me understand important stakeholder perspectives 🌎 My environmental-philanthropy experience informs my knowledge of sustainability 🎓 My MBA has equipped with me with the skills to assess branding, marketing, financials, and people It's already been an awesome first month of supporting Daring Capital with its mission of finding extraordinary under-represented founders creating profitable companies that make the world a better place. Thanks Jem Stein for welcoming me into the team! #angelinvesting #socialimpact #entrepreneurship #socialentrepreneurship
🌟I'm delighted to say that we have a new team member 🌟Lauren Gupta has joined us in the role of Deal Manager 🌟Lauren is passionate about supporting young people to achieve their potential and managed programmes at employability charities, such as the EY Foundation. She is also the founding trustee of an environmental grant-making organisation and has an MBA from Esade in Barcelona. 🌟She will be managing the process of finding, assessing and selecting start-ups to put in front of investors. 🌟I always tell entrepreneurs to hire people that complement your skill set and Lauren is many things that I'm not: organised, process-driven and punctual 😂 Our little team of Amir, Claire, Lauren and I are shaping up nicely.

🌟 Ensuring Integrity and Impact: The Importance of Due Diligence for Nonprofit Organizations 🌟 In the ever-evolving landscape of nonprofit organizations, due diligence has become a critical aspect to ensure transparency, accountability, and impactful outcomes. As we work closely with NGOs, it's vital to scrutinize their operations, financial health, and governance structures meticulously. Here are a few key areas to focus on during the due diligence process: Financial Health: Review financial statements, audit reports, and funding sources to ensure the organization is financially stable and transparent. Governance: Evaluate the board's composition, governance policies, and the effectiveness of their oversight functions. Compliance and Legal Framework: Ensure the organization complies with local laws and regulations, and has no legal issues that might jeopardize its operations. Impact Assessment: Analyze the NGO’s programs and initiatives to assess their effectiveness and actual impact on the community. Sustainability: Consider the long-term sustainability of the organization’s programs and its ability to adapt to changing circumstances. By conducting thorough due diligence, we not only safeguard our investments but also support NGOs in achieving their mission more effectively. Let’s continue to strive for excellence and integrity in the nonprofit sector! 💼🌍 Mukul Vaidya Umesh Malekar Rasika Rahatekar Sevavardhini #DueDiligence #Nonprofit #Transparency #Governance #Socialimpact #Entrepreneurship #sustainability #Governance
