Whether you're prepping for an office relocation or carefully safeguarding your prized ‘Employee of the Month’ plaque, we've all fallen for the temptations of popping bubble wrap like gleeful children! But before bubble wrap became the convenient protective packaging we've come to know and love, it was actually the by-product of a failed invention: textured wallpaper! 😆 Yes, wallpaper! In 1957, two ambitious engineers, Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes, felt the industry lacked wallpaper options. In trying to find a solution, they sealed two shower curtains with air bubbles in between. Their plastic wallpaper didn't exactly get the attention and appreciation they were expecting, but they persevered in marketing it for different uses. Eventually, a few industries saw its potential, and at last, the first prototype of bubble wrap was born! ••• #PattrnWorkspace #OfficeDesign #CommercialOffice #FurnitureDesign #ModernFurniture #InteriorDesign #WorkplaceDesign #WallpaperDesign #BubbleWrap

When choosing a toothbrush, what’s the first thing you pay attention to? The bristles? The packaging? But have you ever considered its overall design? A toothbrush’s design isn’t just for looks — it’s built for functionality. The handle is designed for comfort and control, which is why most handles look quite similar. For children, the handles are thicker, as they tend to hold the brush with their whole palm. As for the brush heads, each design serves a different purpose: ◾ Oval head: Reaches all areas of the mouth. ◾ Rectangular head: Covers more surface area. ◾ Angled head: Targets the back teeth and ensures precision cleaning. ◾ Small head: Ideal for narrow spaces and between teeth. ◾ Round head: Found in electric brushes, offering full coverage. What kind of toothbrush design do you usually prefer? #ToothbrushDesign #DentalCare #OralHealth #ProductDesign #UserExperience ◾

Does the world need another object? 🤔 That's the question all designers should ask before creating another chair, spoon, or hairdryer. Stop and think: Do we really need more junk? Instead of wasting time and resources, use your skills to create something truly useful. #design #sustainability #industrialdesign

Did you know that one in five people in Australia have a form of physical or mental disadvantage? So when planning an event display, pop up shop or trade promo, we suggest considering how to broaden your appeal with sightlines that are accessible for all. Elements to plan for are: - good lighting so objects are clearly seen - objects are visible from both standing and wheelchair height - space around the items on display for easy access from mobility devices and support animals The age of your audience can determine the height too. Getting creative and looking from your ideal client can be fun! For example, consider childrens sight lines: - low hanging wall works - low-set shelves - short pedestals And while times are tough for so many businesses in Australia, consider how you can use what you already have, in a new setting. Rearranged at a new height, placement, sightline, your display furniture can be great for ongoing use. #rethinkdisplay #redesign #accessibilitymatters #reuse

𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬: You have a 𝐛𝐢𝐠 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭 to attend. You’ve been looking forward to this event for a long time. You’ve even meticulously planned out your outfit beforehand and bought a new tie. As you’re getting ready, you open the tie drawer BUT it doesn’t open! It’s jammed! No matter what you try, the drawer just won’t budge. And just like that, your day is ruined. All because of a silly drawer. Or maybe you were opening a door and the doorknob came off or one day, your cabinet hinges just decided to give up. Architectural hardware is the unsung hero of daily life that works in silence to ensure smooth functioning. You only ever notice it when it malfunctions. A quick tip: If you’re ever bored, just scroll through the product list on a hardware manufacturer’s website. It’s interesting to see just how much variety there is to things as small as a cabinet hinge. 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭: The selection of hardware goes beyond mere visual appeal. Careful consideration should be given to functionality based on space usage. For example, high-traffic areas might benefit from lever handles, while child safety locks could be crucial in residential settings with young children. 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐃𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: Material selection is very crucial for long-lasting performance. Stainless steel is a popular choice for its exceptional strength, corrosion resistance and minimal maintenance requirements. 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬: The modern design landscape prioritises eco-conscious practices. Stainless steel shines here as a highly recyclable material that contributes to a more sustainable building environment. Let us know your thoughts! Hip V. Hype really does walk the talk when it comes to specifying products for clients and their workplace. Finding a balance between value, quality and environmental impact is integral to their product curation process, together with championing local designers and manufacturers where possible. Designed and made in Melbourne, Planex is a long term collaborator of Hip V. Hype. The latest edition to the Planex range, Stax, is no exception, housing their extensive library of books and material samples. The Stax shelving system integrates well in the workplace. The open structure allows for easy access to different materials brochures and samples used within the collective. Stax adds visual interest within the collective and viewed from the street creates an interesting case of curiosities.
