MY REACTION TO MEDIA COVERAGE OF TRUMP’s CABINET PICKS When I see headlines in international media as below: 1- Why Trump is trying to outrage Washington with his controversial cabinet picks? My reaction was, Trump is destroying America democracy not outraging Washington. 2- Trump stirs the pot with shock cabinet picks. My reaction was, Trump is not stirring any pot but supervising the destruction of America. 3- Trump emerging team of loyalists is primed for a fast start in his second term. My reaction was, no fast start is expected with this cabinet but fast decline. The full force of the decline will not be felt in the next four year but long after Trump had relunctantly left office.

“For starters, while the president-elect remains personally uninterested in the business of governance, his second administration will be staffed with more ideologically aligned and experienced senior officials ready to implement his “America First” agenda from the start. Gone are the institutionalist career staffers who often checked the president’s most disruptive impulses, as well as the less seasoned loyalists who later replaced them. Trump’s second-term foreign-policy advisers will be much more loyal than those at the start of his first term, and more experienced than those at the end of it. Most importantly, the world has become more dangerous since he last held the job. Trump’s first-term accomplishments took place amid historically low interest rates and within a generally benign geopolitical context. But now, two regional wars, intensifying competition with China, emboldened rogue actors like Russia, Iran, and North Korea, a sluggish global economy, and disruptive technologies like artificial intelligence will place entirely new demands on Trump’s leadership.” https://lnkd.in/dpxExT4T

At the World Trade Council of Wichita, we aim to stay above the political fray. We do not endorse political candidates, and have maintained political neutrality years before The Washington Post 🤓. Regardless, we found interesting, though not particularly healthy, this article on how senior managers are avoiding political statements for fear of affecting their bottom lines: Geopolitical factors have become highly influential in understanding market opportunities and risks; generally, the more information we have on companies' decision-making criteria, the stronger the conclusions on their operations. https://lnkd.in/eYtqu9RR

This is a quick read and a good introduction to Jeff Sonnenfeld’s work on executive leadership. It’s obviously important now, but I think the subjects of transition and succession are applicable much more broadly than to just the executive sphere. How we want to be remembered and how we think about career missteps and transitions are questions we all ask ourselves. Jeff’s study of top leaders where the stakes are high is useful given the current political situation, but his examples are informative at all levels.

Out now in TIME. Biden is being celebrated for his superb tour of duty and putting the nation’s interests over his own. The difficult decision to exit his close race for re-election showed the torment I've observed over the past 40 years researching transitions https://lnkd.in/euzn6Fum
