Preparing for vacation - how do you prepare your media monitoring? Are you preparing for vacation or time away from the office? This may be the right time to review your media monitoring to check that you are monitoring the right issues. And that you will be notified at the right time. Your may wish to monitor additional, or different issues, when you are away from the office compared to ordinary work days. You may also want that your media monitoring sends reports immediately when an article is published, so as not to be surprised if something happens "back at the office". Another example of preparations is to to create specific search agents that are good when you are away on vacation. You can also use media monitoring for other purposes when you are away. Find reviews for the best ice-cream stand or restaurants where you are going? 🍦

"Our social media should be like our drive-thru, open 24-7." It was 2008 and the early days of social media. I couldn't even tell you who said this, but I can tell you I remember those words. At the time, I was trying to prove myself and thought it was healthy that I was "always on" - a community manager and legal social media expert who could respond easily on weekends, on vacations, at all hours. Social media teams really were a power of 1 in those days and boundaries did not exist as they do now. You were the experts, the ones who could do it all - with no back-up - and it really was the Wild Wild West. We were at the mercy of our industry, in a way. As I became the leader I am today - and as I look to turn off work for the next week as I go on vacation with my family - my team will tell you I convey this story a lot when discussing boundaries. Im a hard line when it comes to PTO, logging off at the end of the day, not saying you'll be available via cell on vacations, and not wasting your vacation time. We have back-ups and contingency in place, and the ONLY reason my team should get a call on vacation is if you have a password and it wasn't in your OOO coverage. And this applies to me and Eileen O'Brien, too. This is what makes our people better - respecting their life-work alignment, encouraging them to rest and recharge, and be motivated to come into a encouraging, positive workplace. See y'all back at work on the 17th once I log off today - and remove email and Teams app off my phone, as I am still sometimes a creature of those 2009 habits. And be prepared to discuss the House of Dragon S2 premiere, team! #leadership #vacation #socialmedia

I never fully unplug when I go away on vacation. After a stressful experience returning to thousands of emails post a trip to Cuba, I now check my emails first thing in the morning and before dinner each day while on vacation. This method ensures I come back to a manageable inbox. Here's a pro-tip: avoid scheduling meetings on your first day back to allow yourself time to catch up quietly without the added stress of immediate deliverables. #WorkLifeBalance #VacationTips

Humble-brag: I get compliments on my Out of Office email. Here's the exact text I used last week: --- 55% of American's don't use their annual paid vacation time and here in the US we're the only high-economic production country without federally mandated paid leave. Which is to say, I've gone to the beach for some sun, fun, and family. I'll be slow to respond, but will get back to you soon. Hope you're finding time to rest, rejuvenate, and connect with your loved ones throughout the year. Thank you & be well, Darlene --- I've gotten compliments on it. Corporate partners ask if they can steal it. People replied that they booked a vacation because they read it. You may not realize it, but how you respond (even passively) impacts your world. Consider the message you're putting out: Does it benefit what you care about? Ask yourself how to amplify it. Is it misaligned or harmful? Sounds like it's time to adjust.

Heading on Vacation? 🏖️ During the summer months, many people are setting their "out-of-office" messages and preparing for some downtime. Recently I've noticed a trend of creative, humorous replies. It’s an interesting shift from the standard, professional tone. It's important to include these key elements: 📅 Dates of absence: Start and end dates. ⏳ Response expectation: When will you respond. @ Alternative contacts: Who should they reach out to. but if you want to be more innovative, you can include: 🔵 a short video of yourself thanking them for the email 🔵 a link to your recent article, case study or landing page 🔵 email personalization tags, e.g. display their name in auto-reply What do you include in your Out-Of-Office message? #OutOfOffice #WorkLifeBalance #VacationTime #HolidayMode
