What does it mean to celebrate Christmas far from home? This is my third Christmas away from Scotland, due to living in Canada on a visa. Being far from home during the holidays can feel not quite right, but I’ve learned it’s an opportunity to create new traditions and make the season feel special in your own way. If you’re spending your first Christmas away or considering a big move, here are some tips: 1️⃣ Bring your traditions with you – Familiar recipes, decorations, or playlists can make any space feel like home. 2️⃣ Embrace where you are – Celebrate the unique traditions of your new location and make them your own. 3️⃣ Create your community – Share the season with friends through small gatherings or simple moments. 4️⃣ Make space for your feelings – It’s okay to miss home while also finding joy where you are now. And it’s the 25th of November! Never too early for a tree 🫶

Christmas is a time where a lot of people have family traditions. When people separate, it can be very difficult to come to terms with that; these traditions now have changed. However, it can also be a great opportunity for co-parents to create new ones. Christmas has changed now you are not together anymore but that does not have to be a bad thing. Think about what is important to you and the kids about the Christmas period and start making new fun memories with your kids. Building new traditions can bring joy and comfort, even as family dynamics change. Looking for ideas on how to navigate this new chapter and work out the new arrangements with your ex? Happy Thanksgiving to those who celebrate it—near or far! 🦃🍂 Thanksgiving has always been a meaningful holiday for me. It’s also a time to reflect on how holidays can differ around the world. What might seem like an ordinary Thursday in one part of the world is a national celebration in another. Taking the time to learn about someone else’s customs, traditions, and holidays is a simple way to show kindness and make others feel valued. Small gestures can go a long way in fostering connection across cultures. Let’s all continue to learn about and honor the traditions that shape those around us. A simple recognition of someone's special day—whether it’s a holiday, tradition, or personal event—can show them kindness. One small gesture at a time, we can foster connection. 🌍🤝 #Thanksgiving #Gratitude #CulturalAwareness #KindnessMatters #GlobalConnections

The Holidays are upon us, and many workplaces are starting their Holiday Party Planning. They are decorating, planning Secret Santa or Yankee Swap events, thinking about festive foods and otherwise getting into the Holiday Spirit. But what about your Team Members who don't celebrate Christmas? People like me, who celebrate Hannukah? Or Eid? Or Kwanzaa? Or the many other Festivals which occur between American Thanksgiving and the middle of January? Or the Team Members who observe Christmas, but don't celebrate it in the same way? Are your Holiday Festivities inclusive of their way of Observance and/or Celebration? Or is your company leaning heavily into the Christian or Secular Christmas Celebrations? This is a great opportunity for everyone to learn about other Holidays, and their traditions. Inclusion is growth and making your Team stronger. Happy Holidays to those who celebrate, and respect to those who observe their Holidays.

🇳🇱🎄The Uniqueness of Dutch Christmas Traditions 🎄🇳🇱 Have you ever wondered how different cultures celebrate Christmas? The article I just read highlights the distinctiveness of Dutch holiday traditions, which center around family gatherings and religious roots. 👨👩👧👦 **Family Gatherings**: In the Netherlands, Christmas, especially December 25th, is a time for families to come together for dinner and the exchange of gifts, emphasizing intimate connections over lavish gifting. 🎁 **Symbolic Gifts**: Unlike in many countries where gift-giving is extravagant, Dutch Christmas gifts are more symbolic, focusing on the joy of being together. Interestingly, Sinterklaas on December 5th is also a significant gift-giving event! 🍽️ **Festive Feasts**: While there's no specific signature dish like in other cultures, Dutch Christmas tables often feature the Kerststol, a traditional fruit bread borrowed from the Germans, reflecting a culinary blend. 🎁 **Christmas Package Tradition**: Did you know that Dutch employers often give 'Christmas packages' to employees? This unique practice originates from agricultural customs and has evolved into a corporate tradition. The blend of these traditions makes Dutch Christmas truly special. What are your thoughts on focusing more on family and less on materialism during the holidays? How do you celebrate Christmas in your culture? Share your insights and let's discuss! ⬇️ A teljes cikk itt érhető el: https://lnkd.in/eNffPuun

🎄🎄 What Christmas Means to Me 🎄🎄 As the holiday season approaches, I find myself reflecting on what Christmas truly means. Beyond the traditions, the decorations, and the festive atmosphere, Christmas serves as a reminder of the values that guide us year-round: kindness, gratitude, and connection. For me, Christmas is a time to slow down, appreciate the little things, and spend quality time with loved ones. It’s about creating memories, sharing joy, and giving back to others. It reminds me of the importance of community and the power of simple acts of kindness—whether it’s a thoughtful gesture, a helping hand, or just a kind word when it’s needed most. In the professional world, it’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind, but Christmas encourages me to step back, reflect on the year, and remember what truly matters. It’s about nurturing relationships, both personal and professional, and fostering an environment where collaboration and mutual support thrive. As we close out this year, I’m reminded of how grateful I am for the people in my life, the opportunities I’ve had, and the growth I’ve experienced. Here’s to carrying the spirit of Christmas into the New Year, with a renewed focus on kindness, connection, and purpose. Wishing everyone a joyful, safe and peaceful holiday season! Thanksgiving is my favourite holiday. The food, no pressure for gifts, the family, the friends—or in my case, our chosen family, given how far I live away from my extended family in Canada. Anyone who knows me, knows I am constantly harping on about #community. When I first moved to Geneva years ago, my biggest fear about leaving the #humanitarian sector wasn’t the career pivot or yet another international move—it was the community. As a humanitarian abroad, you always had a community. You were far from family, so you made your own—friends who became family, strangers who became neighbours, and colleagues who became roommates (read: shared guesthouses and in camps communal shipping containers turned into bunks). Fast forward to Geneva, where it took me years to feel like I had finally built that kind of community. It’s not easy to find people who you can call on for anything. This year, I feel like I’ve finally gotten there. We hosted a Canadian Thanksgiving at our place for the 5th year in a row with the same families who have become our chosen community, and we are attending two American Thanksgiving celebrations. And here’s the link to #socialimpact: the power of community isn’t just about us personally—it’s about what we do with it. Whether in the workplace, within social movements, or in our local neighbourhoods, building and nurturing community is where real #impact starts. It’s where we find our power to drive change, to uplift others, and to transform those little moments into meaningful progress So this Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for the community I’ve found, for the people who’ve supported me, and for those who remind me why we do this work in the first place. P.S. Here’s a photo of our Thanksgiving table this year—because one of my favourite things about Thanksgiving is the table decor. Not quite at Martha Stewart's level, but it’s an annual ritual that I truly love. #Community #SocialImpact #Thanksgiving #Connection

Good morning lovely people, Edinburgh has embraced its full Christmas spirit. The locals may be slightly Grinchy but our visitors do love the city at this time of year. The Ice Ring, Polar Bar and Coorie Inn on George Street look clunky but seem to be drawing the crowds and the cosy welcome in the warming bar has a refreshingly hot (not our usual winter) feel about it. Princes Street Gardens have even tempted us Continis to the Star Flyer.... Continue reading and find Nonna G's Yum Yum Pudding recipe👇 https://lnkd.in/eQSyYVTQ
