People read on the internet, but they aren't particularly patient about it. That's why it's important to break down longer, more complex sentences. Example: "Our nonprofit provides resources, advocates for change, and fosters community development for underrepresented youth, low-income families, and local small businesses." Hard to skim. Too many lists. My brain gave up in the middle, to be honest. Consider trying something like this example instead. (But, you know. One that you took more than 3 minutes to write): — We serve underrepresented youth, low-income families, and local small businesses. Providing resources: Educational workshops and scholarships Advocates for change: Lobbying for educational funding Community development: Small business grants and neighborhood revitalization projects — What does your brain do when the info is presented this way?

The ConnexCares grant program is designed to award financial support to nonprofit organizations in Connex's field of membership that provide community programs or services related to at least one of its three pillars: financial literacy, children's health, and food insecurity. ConnexCares is proud to award $5,000 to Beulah Heights Social Integration Program to to support their mission of providing a diverse and creative approach to delivering supportive, wrap-around services and resources for the Greater New Haven area.

Connex Credit Union has been off to a running start with their CDFI certification and impacts. I love how ConnexCares has very clear pilloars of financial literacy, children's health and food insecurity. Research clearly shows that a child's ability to learn and retain is impacted to health and nutrition. Increased efforts are needed to break generational poverty. A 2023 report reveals that 10% of nonprofit CEOs in New York City are Black women, while 5% are Hispanic women. Many started with just a few dollars, operating from their kitchen tables to provide food and shelter to needy families. Unfortunately, we've shifted from being "neighbors" to being called "CEOs." Local community organizations are non-profit groups that work right here in our neighborhoods to advocate for issues important to residents. ✍🏾 In San Francisco, there are several organizations focused on affordable housing and racial equity—two issues that deeply impact people of color. 🤝🏾 Connecting with these groups can really make a positive difference. 💫 1️⃣ You'll learn about resources. 💡 These organizations know the ins and outs of housing laws, tenants' rights, and programs that can help keep rents reasonable. ✅ They can let you know about down payment assistance, rent control, and more. 2️⃣ Your voice will be stronger together. 💡 When we join with others who face similar challenges, it amplifies our collective power to create change. ✅ Local groups take concerns from real people and advocate directly to lawmakers and developers on our behalf. 3️⃣ You'll find community and support. 💡 The fight for affordable homes and justice is difficult but feeling less alone makes it more bearable. ✅ These organizations offer networking, mentoring from experienced leaders, and solidarity between neighbors standing up for their rights. Trauma-Informed Care is a lens in which we interact with our communities to best support their healing and needs. Tenants of trauma-informed care include safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment. Applying these tenants to the fundraising space helps empower fundraisers to build a stronger communications and language that works to include donors in the work of justice and healing. Learning objectives will include how to craft narratives that center lived experience without othering or trivializing lived experience, how to practically apply trauma-informed principles to our work, and how to engage donors in the process of trauma-informed systems that lead to healthier philanthropic interactions and stronger community ties.
