Concrete: brutally beautiful but in need of a climate reboot #Concrete has proved to be a very versatile material for constructing buildings that can last for several decades. But its environmental impact has led to pressure to find more eco-friendly versions for truly #sustainable #cities. https://wix.to/AQqcm30

These are times where we still fight to avoif the worst, but will need to adapt to the changes already in motion. There is a lot to be learned from communities that have been dealing with weather, sismic and other extreme natural conditions. When I watch this video, I feel a lot of respect for the ingenuity and courage of this community. #sustainability #climatechange #innovation #architecture

👍 This article by Francesca Perry in Friday's Financial Times is a great read (https://lnkd.in/gxViXzze). The development of "Sponge Cities" as a resilience and adaptation action in the face of climate change seems like a hopeful vector of urban development and regeneration. This sentence struck me as a very positive call to action: "The sponge city may not be delivered all at once, but perhaps project by project, pore by pore, it can emerge from collective efforts."

The climate is an ever-changing reality we must adapt to, this is a solution every city should embrace: “Medellín’s temperatures fell by 2C in the first three years of the Green Corridors program, with a further 5C decrease expected in future” 🌱 #green #eco #climate

Nice to see climate adaptation on the agenda as it’s increasingly inevitable. Wouldn’t it be great if the use of “green/blue infrastructure” became the norm in our cities? Maybe one for the UKREIIF-ies to discuss! 😁 #sustainability #climateadaptation #planning https://lnkd.in/eugPBPuC

A #heatwave in #Mexico and southern #USA was made 35 times more likely due to catastrophic impacts of #climatechange. #urban areas where people live are becoming no-go areas in peak temperatures as buildings and emergency services struggle to cope. This, along with the fact that #cooling demand for #buildings is expected to QUADRUPLE by 2050, means #cities need urgent #outdoor #thermal #comfort retrofits. #construction #sustainability #architecture #neom #dubai #cibse Virtual Climate C40 Cities Veda Baliga https://lnkd.in/d2sWEtcn

4moWhile honeybees can be great workers, they often fight for resources with our #nativebee species which are critical in many areas! Another reason to #plantnative. Green roofs are a great way to incorporate habitats for our local heroes and enhance biodiversity.
