Holidays can be the season of magic and wonder, but that can often come at a cost. Every year as a family we do the Polar Express. The amazing people at Vermont Children’s Trust Foundation in Burlington really go all out. You get the tickets in June (!) and have to cross your fingers the kids stay healthy for that day the first weekend in December. We do the matching holiday pjs for the kids (make sure they are clean), drive the 50 mins to Burlington (it’s always terrible weather), ride the train with hot chocolate and cookies, sing/listen to carolers, high five the 100s of volunteer elves, listen to the book, and of course meet Santa and Mrs. Claus and get a bell (which gets rung, in stereo, for the full 50 min drive home). It’s an amazing way to kick off the magic of the holiday season. It’s also exhausting. While it lifts me up to see my kids experiencing the wonder of these events, I also know what it took to get there. So this holiday season don’t forget to check in with yourself. Ask for help if possible. Give yourself (and those around you) all the grace you can muster. Don’t feel bad for letting go of traditions that no longer serve you. It’s hard creating all this excitement, and requires a lot of the people engineering it. Picture of kid #2 turning Christmas tree shopping into hide and seek yesterday. Another overwhelmingly joyful albeit slightly exhausting experience. #workingparents #holidays #magiccanbeexhausting

We were recently asked "Why do you take WInter Holiday Break?" 🤔 At Intention Labs, we believe in the humanization of work — honoring the balance between professional commitments and personal well-being. That’s why we embrace a Winter Holiday Break, not just as time off, but as a moment to reflect, recharge, and respect the diverse traditions our team celebrates. Whether celebrating traditionally recognized holidays or enjoying a quiet pause, this break allows our staff to connect with what matters most to them. Although our Winter Holiday Break begins on 16th of December, there are numerous festive days to celebrate all month long - Here is a great list! https://loom.ly/6D15Z_w But it’s not just about rest. This time away also strengthens our operations: ✅ Fresh perspectives for a strong start in the new year. ✅ Strategic planning to fine-tune goals. ✅ Enhanced collaboration after meaningful downtime. By prioritizing this balance, we’re building a culture where everyone feels valued—not just for what they contribute, but for who they are. Cheers to rest, renewal, and readiness for the year ahead. Let’s close this year strong and begin 2025 with purpose! 🌟 #HumanWork #WinterBreak #HolidaySeason #ThrivingTogether

What’s Your Holiday “No”? Here’s Mine. 🙅♀️ I’ve always been the social type. Invite me to a party, game night, or gathering, and I’m there! I love connecting with people and having fun. But here’s the thing: as much fun as those events are, I’d always come home drained. Tired. Wiped out. When it came to the Christmas season, I knew I didn’t want that same feeling creeping into my holiday break. So, years ago—back when I first got married (wow, time flies!)—I had a conversation with my hubby about my big holiday “No.” I never wanted to travel for Christmas. Let me explain. Around the holidays, I usually get about a week off from work (paid, yay!), and I wanted to actually enjoy that time. Like, really enjoy it. No packing, no booking flights, no lugging gifts through airports. Just a simple, restful staycation. Most trips are exhausting, and honestly, who’s packing up all those Christmas gifts? Nah, I’m good! 😂 My hubby was on board, and once we had kids, that “No” became even more solidified. Staying home has allowed us to slow down, create our own traditions, and truly soak in the season without the chaos. It’s been a game-changer for my family and a reminder that sometimes saying "No" is the best way to say "Yes" to what matters most. So, here’s my question for you: ❄️ What’s your “No” this holiday season? ❄️ How are you setting boundaries to protect your peace and focus on what really counts? Let’s trade ideas and inspire each other to create a stress-free, joy-filled holiday season. #HolidayBoundaries #QualityTime #FamilyTraditions #JustSayNo #SetBoundaries #ParentCoach #WorkingMom #WorkingDad #ParentingTipsAndTricks

🦃Here we go! The holiday season is kicking off and here are the 3 P’s of holiday gatherings, travel and going out to dinner that can make things run a little more smoothly for you and your family! 🍗 pre-load/practice This one works for little ones all the way up through teenagers. Let your kids know ahead of time what’s going to be happening and what will be expected of them. For example, you might be traveling somewhere on an airplane. Practice with your little ones in your car with seatbelts, letting them know that on the airplane it’s the same thing. Talk about the fact that they’ll need to stay in their seat the whole time and let them know that you’ll have things for them to play with, snacks to eat, etc.. You can preload Thanksgiving dinner ( or any other out-to-eat experience) expectations too. For little ones this might mean talking about staying at the table for the entire dinner. It can mean practicing putting napkins on laps and using quiet voices during dinner. For tweens and teens preloading looks more like talking about if phones/tablets will be allowed or not, and making sure they understand the expectations ahead of time rather than right before the event. It can also look like brainstorming a list of open-ended questions that they can ask grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc. IMPORTANT: preloading also works with your relatives. If you have an extremely shy child who is not comfortable giving relatives a hug, it is well within your rights to let people know ahead of time that your child prefers a fist bump or a wave. It’s important to listen to our children if they are not comfortable hugging someone they haven’t seen for a long time. Saying something to your child like “you know your body and you’ll know when you’re ready and it’s OK to give a wave instead” is perfectly acceptable. 🦃 Please see comments for the rest of the 3Ps of holiday gatherings and travel!

If you want to truly enjoy the holidays and not just operate in survival mode, take some advice from Santa Claus himself, who’s known for “Making a list and checking it twice.” While you could potentially remember everything that needs to get done and also smoothly delegate along the way, why would you do that to yourself when you could plan it out and recycle and update those plans year after year? You wouldn’t be the first person to wing it and then gasp when they realize they’re missing a particular gift, key ingredient, or even the tickets to the annual holiday lights show that they never miss. Today in ARTIcles by Artifcts, we’re sharing tips from three professionals, Jill Katz, CPO®, C. Lee Cawley, and Samara G., in hopes of keeping your holiday season merry and bright. What makes the holiday season so magical? Maybe it’s the twinkling lights, inspiring movies, or the sweet smells of comfort foods. I think the true magic comes from something much simpler: the collective effort to bring more cheer into the world. At AMITY, we embrace this spirit of togetherness and joy by hosting a Holiday Soirée for our members. It’s more than just an event; it’s our way of saying “You belong here, and we’re grateful for you” to each of our members. We are so thankful to those who attended the Holiday Soirée despite busy schedules. But spreading holiday cheer isn’t limited to one event or a specific time of year. It can live in the everyday actions at work- like holding the door open for someone, saying hello to a coworker, or making an effort to brighten someone’s day. We are lucky enough to have members that truly embody ‘holiday cheer’ all year long! As we gather for the holidays, let’s celebrate the magic of community, connection, and celebration- because this cheer lasts well beyond the season. #coworking #holidaycheer #remotework #officespace #eventspace #meetingspace #metrodetroit #entreprenuers #smallbusiness

With summer holiday season just around the corner I wanted to share some advice that a friend of mine received when her house was burgled whilst she was on her summer holidays. 1. Don't post your holiday plans on your socials before you go away. Especially if there is a way that people can figure out your home address (is your business registered there or have you posted photos of your home recently?). You're basically telling everyone that your house or office might be empty for the next 1 or 2 weeks. 2. Post your holiday news and photos when you return, making it clear that you're back .... 3. ....unless you go away on holiday at the same time every year (half term etc). In which case, vary the time that you post your holiday news so that it isn't clear when you actually went. 4. When you activate your out-of-office response, don't explicitly say that you will be going away on holiday. If you will be away from home, don't even mention that you're taking annual leave. Just say that you'll be away from your desk. Please follow these steps and have safe and wonderful holidays this year.
