Brief Founder Story: Bob Parsons, founder of GoDaddy, philanthropist, and former United States Marine Corps officer, grows up in a tough neighborhood. Decides to enlist in the Marine Corps, serves as a highly decorated rifleman in Vietnam. Leaves the military, returns home, goes to college, and gets his accounting degree. Starts working as a CPA for major firms like Peat Marwick and PricewaterhouseCoopers. Decides that working for someone is not for him. Starts his first business, Parsons Technology, and later sells it to Intuit for $64 million. Next move? In 1994, starts another business called Jomax Technologies. Doesn’t like the name, decides to change it to GoDaddy. (A very good decision) Another great entrepreneur story of perseverance, determination, and strong work ethic, to beat the startup failure odds. Said Parsons; “Don’t wait for opportunity. Create it.” So true.

There is a couple trillion (with a "T") dollars tied up in businesses that will transition over the next few years. Only about 30% of those that are put on the market actually close.... Buying an existing business, with its processes, people, culture and CUSTOMERS is infinitely more likely to succeed than starting from scratch. Both can be done - explore the options. Veterans and their spouses in the area now have improved access to resources for starting their own businesses! Wright State University’s Veteran and Military Center has established a Veterans Business Outreach Center (VBOC), the first in Ohio and one of 31 across the country. This new center aims to support veterans in launching their entrepreneurial ventures by helping them navigate Small Business Administration programs and opportunities.
