Data exist to explain differences between sexes and age groups regarding suicide patterns; however, our understanding of the specific experiences of diverse groups is lacking. Consequently, our knowledge of factors that impact risk of suicide and, in turn, effective suicide prevention approaches in African, Caribbean and Black (ACB) communities is limited. https://bit.ly/48HkW5k #MentalHealth #diversity

Last night, I had the privilege of attending a much-needed conversation hosted by Wesley Clover through their Tech Tuesday series. The event featured Susan Blain and the Dare To Be Vulnerable Project, focusing on mental health in the workplace and empowering us to have courageous conversations by building our ‘playbook’ (as Susan called it). It was truly a breath of fresh air. However, not every breath of fresh air is the same. This one had a sharp edge. Witnessing more than two-thirds of the audience raise their hands when asked if they knew someone who had committed suicide was a jolt to the system. Learning that nearly 90% of entrepreneurs face daily obstacles and barriers to mental health was eye-opening, though sadly not entirely surprising. The environment was deeply vulnerable as several leaders in the ecosystem stepped forward to share their ongoing struggles with imposter syndrome, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and more. This invaluable conversation will undoubtedly help us all find the courage to step forward with our own challenges and speak up. It also served as a powerful reminder of the burdens we all carry. Life is hard! We often keep so much inside, choosing not to share, but the message must be clear: “It’s okay to not be okay.” Sharing your story and leaning on those around you is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of great strength. I’m sharing this video because last night’s conversation reminded me of his story. Here is a professional athlete and mixed martial artist opening up about the pain of losing his best friend to suicide and the message he wanted to share with the world when given the platform to do so. #mentalhealth #itsokaytonotbeokay #weallneedahelpinghand

"There's motion but there's no change." A line from a song I was listening to earlier reminded me of that feeling when someone is agreeing with something I said, is impressed by something I said or thinks a mental exercise I suggested would be hugely beneficial. And then does nothing, changes nothing. It was nice to hear that it's not just me that experiences that. #TherapeuticCoaching #CoachingForGrowth #CoachingForChange #FindingYourPurpose https://lnkd.in/e5p-8kut

For any who missed it, here is The Agenda episode I was on yesterday, discussing #SiblingRivalry. The part I found a little humerous is that, at one point, I suggested that parents SHOULD be concerned about sibling rivalry because it represents an opportunity to teach children conflict resolution skills that will enhance their social health, happiness and success. I suggested that one powerful approach is for the parents to model good conflict resolution when they have a dispute ... take the time to listen to one another, have a rational discussion, be open to compromise, etc. Watch how quickly they laugh that off "who would ever do that?" ... ummm, maybe parents who want their children to live a happy and successful life? Is this want second to putting in the time and effort to model such skills? There are no quick fixes. Building social health will take effort and will require habits to be formed or reformed ... that doesn't just happen, it takes time, effort and dedication. https://lnkd.in/gvKFsT3d

Have you ever felt like your emotional needs weren't being met, and it led you to seek comfort in unhealthy ways? It's something I think many people struggle with, especially when dealing with stress or difficult emotions. If this sounds familiar, you're not alone. In our latest episode of the Boundless Body Podcast, I had a conversation with Kristin Snowden, a licensed marriage and family therapist, about unmet needs and the desire for escapism. Kristin shared insights from her work with crisis couples, addiction recovery, and trauma treatment. We explored the emotional dynamics in relationships, how emotions like resentment and jealousy can cause harm, and the importance of vulnerability in healing. We also talked about how men often struggle with embracing vulnerability, which is crucial for emotional development. Wondering where you can listen to the full episode? Trigger Warning: This video depicts themes of childhood trauma. 🌟 Reflecting on the impact of childhood trauma, it's vital to acknowledge the prevalence of negative core beliefs and the sense of responsibility it can instill in individuals. Compassion plays a crucial role in healing, offering reassurance that the burdens of past experiences were never solely our own. Let's foster environments of empathy and understanding, reminding ourselves and others: "It's not your fault." https://lnkd.in/gaJ77c6d #Compassion #HealingJourney #TraumaAwareness #SupportiveEnvironment #MentalHealth #SelfCompassion #Empathy #TraumaRecovery
