As an HR professional at a large employer in MA, I can promise you I will not be recommending Nationwide to anyone. Not only have they started to drop over 100K pets and loyal customers, they are literally abandoning these pets. Why? Because they are not offering to roll those pets over into other plans continuing to cover the conditions these pets developed under Nationwide's OWN policies. Instead, they are telling consumers that they must apply for a new plan, thereby making all those conditions (and I can't emphasize enough these are conditions these pets developed while COVERED by Nationwide) now pre-existing. What does this mean for aging pets? It will be virtually impossible to get coverage because not only does Nationwide now consider them pre-existing, so will virtually any other pet insurance company. So no. I will not EVER recommend them. Not for pets, not for cars, not for homes. And unlike Nationwide, I keep my promises.

HR professionals, recently NW is dropping pets as soon as they become seniors when the insured is going to need them the most, & after monthly payments have been paid on pets from babies. So they are happy to take on pets if they are young & healthy, but as soon as they start to age- they are dropping policies. If you want to read more customer experiences-look at “dropped by nationwide pet insurance” group in Facebook. It’s awful!

I’m sad to see the negative comments about NW Pet Insurance, as my experience with them was positive and compassionate. I personally insured my dog through Nationwide (not through an employer) and highly vouch for them. I enrolled my pup in 2017 at 8 weeks old with a mid-level plan, upgrading to a higher plan when he turned 4. Despite having chronic ear infections as a puppy, once he had six consistent months without symptoms, coverage for that condition was reinstated, which I appreciated. Claims, including illness and wellness checks, were processed easily and reimbursed within two weeks. Like many industries, premiums increased in 2022, which I expected, similar to my car insurance. In December 2023, when my dog was 6, he was diagnosed with aggressive Lymphoma after several vet & ER visits. Though he passed away three weeks later, Nationwide quickly processed my claims, covering 80% of his $3,500 total costs. I even received a condolence card after canceling the policy. Overall, Nationwide’s service was compassionate and reliable. My dog was covered under the major medical plan with wellness benefits, and I’ve never encountered any issues with policies being dropped due to age. I will continue to insure my next pet with them.

HR professionals - there are many better options out there than Nationwide. NW has systematically been dropping coverage for over 100,000 pet owners leaving many senior animals with pre-existing conditions and no alternative insurance choices. For others, NW has increased their premiums so much (over $5K per year for some) that it is no longer affordable. The animals are the ones that suffer. Please do your research before adding NW to your benefit plans. The Consumer Affairs website has 550 reviews on Nationwide Pet Insurance with an average rating of 1.1 stars out of 5. There is also a Facebook page called “Dropped by Nationwide Pet Insurance…” that has some heart breaking stories of pets and pet owners that have been left out in the cold with no way to financially take care of pets after years of paying rising premiums. NW offers several pet policies. Most of the dropped policies are called “Whole Pet”. They also have a “Major Medical” policy that pays claims based on a diagnosis but this plan’s benefit scheduled has not been updated since 2009! I’m sure all these comments will soon be deleted by NW. please take note of what NW has done before you consider this option.

HR professionals and everyone else reading this. This is a horrible company. They promise something and then back out leaving customers with minimal options. Encouraging employees to use Nationwide does not enhance wellbeing, they will cause your employees a lot of stress and expense. Avoid at all costs

Last year I would have said the company is great. However, that is definitely NOT the case. I was with them for years and then this year my premium increased by 400% from approximately $1100 to $4500 with a maximum payout of $7500. To me, that is basically self insuring already. No, they didn’t drop me but they made the terms so ridiculous you would be crazy to keep the policy. I would look elsewhere if you want to have a company who cares about you and your pet’s wellbeing!

HR Professionals & Brokers do not let your employees go with Nationwide Pet. Nationwide gladly will take pets on as puppies and kittens. They then drop your pet as the pets age. Pre-existing conditions are not usually covered when you change insurance companies. That is causing a lot of grief for pet owners. If they do not drop you, they raise the rates, decrease the co-pay to 50%, Check out the Facebook page to see for yourself. Some of us were lucky and got insurance with Met through our employers. Met stepped up and is insuring pre-existing conditions with their group policy. Share fair and wide. Stay away from Nationwide. https://www.facebook.com/groups/7443466652388986/?hoisted_section_header_type=recently_seen&multi_permalinks=8453836644685310

Avoid this insurance company if you care about your employees mental health. They have doubled members pets insurance for several years now till it’s completely unaffordable despite little claims. Look on Facebook to see how this is happening to thousands of policy holders.

HR Professionals do not recommend Nationwide. They not only dropped 100000 pets, refused other policies without completely new underwriting. This company lost their moral compass
