There are numerous challenges to providing high quality STEM education and workforce development in rural areas. Recognizing these challenges, the National Academies was directed to undertake a consensus study through the CHIPS and Science Act to take stock of existing federal programs that support rural STEM education and workforce development and to develop recommendations for federal, state, and local action to improve it. On December 11, the National Academies will release "K-12 STEM Education and Workforce Development in Rural Areas."
