Elevating Black voices - get in front of journalists! We are launching the fourth installment of our charity speed dating series aimed to amplify stories from Black communities. We are looking to select 12 charities who will get the opportunity to learn how to craft compelling stories with expert guidance from our staff as well as having the opportunity to pitch Black History Month ideas to our journalists. It follows events held earlier this year for International Women's Day, Pride and South Asian Heritage Month with Disability History Month to come. I absolutely love this initiative because it provides access to a diverse range of charities and organisations to our newsrooms - as well as supporting our journalists in covering a wider breadth of stories. If you would like to nominate a charity for the event - organised in partnership with The Media Trust - then please complete the application form. We will be shortlisting and contacting successful charities. Please note that we only have 12 slots available. Deadline for applications is Friday 13th September. https://lnkd.in/ejGR9ihH Mark Hudson Yvonne Yewande Akinwande Jess Lee

This Giving Tuesday: Support the Growth of BlackOak Collective Today, as we celebrate generosity and community, we invite you to support BlackOak Collective in our mission to empower Black professionals in the Environmental and Sustainability sectors. Your contributions directly impact the resources, programs, and connections that help us create a thriving network of changemakers. Under the current status quo, less than 2% of charitable dollars are donated to the environmental sector, and only a fraction of that is invested in environmental justice organizations. For BlackOak Collective and our members, the days since the election have been a time of reconnecting with our community, revisiting our values, and refocusing on our strategic goals. We know what lies ahead: a decrease in support for climate and equity from the public sector and less research, training, and opportunities in the environmental industry for our members. Our solution is to do what we have always done – provide our membership of Black professionals with free direct support, resources, and connections to place them in leadership positions in the environmental industry. Looking to the near future, this mission will be more crucial than ever. With your support, we can: - Provide membership services, including weekly office hours to discuss a potential career change, update their resume, or prepare for a job interview. - Host community-based networking events to raise awareness about possibilities for employment and leadership available through our partners. - Present to soon-to-be matriculated students at historically Black colleges and universities based in the DMV region through our Green Gateways program Join us in building a brighter, more inclusive future by contributing today. Click https://lnkd.in/e5pv9Bph to donate to BlackOak Collective (please list “BlackOak Collective” in the notes) and share any open positions on our Budding Opportunities job board (https://lnkd.in/dMZvVbNb) Together, let’s make a lasting difference. 💚

When it comes to the Black Funding Principles, Principle 7 emphasizes the importance of preserving the Black philanthropy practice of self-reliance and mutual support. 🙌🏽🙌🏾🙌🏿 As donors, working with a philanthropic advisor can help to harness this principle to drive sustainable, community-led change. Applying this principle means honouring and amplifying the strengths within Black communities. It’s about recognizing and leveraging community know-how and resources, while also holding society accountable for ensuring equity. 💰 The key takeaway here is that communities themselves should lead the way to change. By supporting the tradition of self-reliance and mutual support, we lay the groundwork for lasting, community-driven impact. 🚀 #CommunityDriven #BlackPhilanthropy #CollaborativePhilanthropy
