According the SAMHSA's 2023 report, 1 in 3 adolescents received some form of mental health treatment. 1 in 3!! There are a variety of factors contributing to this such as social media influence, academic pressures and increased awareness around mental health. As this number grows, so does the need for skilled, compassionate professionals who are ready to support young people through critical stages of their mental health journey. However, fewer therapists are stepping into residential roles roles. Why? It could be due to the intense, hands-on nature of residential work. It can be emotionally demanding and many therapists don’t feel supported enough to dive into it. At Mental Health Matchmakers, we see this as an opportunity to help fill these essential roles and advocate for work environments that value and support their teams. We do this by: ▶️ Prioritizing Fit: We focus on aligning therapists with programs that support not just the client, but the clinician too. ▶️ Highlighting Opportunity: Residential treatment offers the chance to make a real impact, work closely with clients, and foster deep professional growth. If you’re curious about taking on this kind of role, reach out! We’re here to answer questions and discuss what this work could look like for you. #ResidentialTreatment #TherapistCareers #MentalHealthProfessionals

"Peer Support Saved My Life": A story by Felishia McPherson "I began my journey as a peer support specialist accidentally. I was actually supporting my peers long before I knew there was a title, specialized trainings, career opportunities or a structured way to use my lived experience as a 'tool' to assist others on their mental health journey. [...] [...] I felt honored to be a peer. It gave me a sense of purpose and responsibility to myself and to those that often came to me seeking support (especially as our current circumstances were not conducive to hope, healing, personal growth, happiness or self-love). Upon my release, I was referred to a job as a peer support specialist. I was ecstatic to learn that the mental health recovery I sought for myself and others during my incarceration was exactly what made me qualified for the position. Peer support has been the foundation of my success as a returning citizen, not just as a career, but as a means of communicating, connecting and empowering others. I truly believe peer support saved my life." 🤍🤍🤍 Read More from the Source: hhttps://lnkd.in/ggjDiVYb #InspireIRLbyOWRN #RealLifeStoriesbyOWRN #peerrecovery #peersupport #mentalhealth #behavioralhealth #feedback #growthmindset #improvement #recovery #community #OWRN #OneWorldRecoveryNetwork

May 26, 2024, May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a national observance started in 1949 to bring attention to the importance of mental well-being. Despite recent strides, many Americans still lack access to high-quality mental health care. Consider these statistics about mental health in the United States: - 1 in 5 U.S. adults experience mental illness each year. - Only 47.2% of U.S. adults with mental illness received treatment in 2021. - 1 in 20 U.S. adults experiences severe mental illness each year. - Only 65.4% of U.S. adults with serious mental illness received treatment in 2021. - 1 in 6 U.S. youth have a mental health condition, but only half receive treatment. - 50% of all lifetime mental illness begins by age 14, and 75% by age 24. To address this in the occupational setting, DOE's Oak Ridge Clean-up contractor, UCOR, has hired a Mental and Behavioral Health Program Manager. Walter "Wally" Scull, LCPC joined our clinical team this year, bringing nearly a decade of experience counseling teens, adults, couples, and parents. He is a Certified Clinical Telemental Health Provider and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, currently seeing telehealth clients ages 18-85 at a community mental health setting. This Mental Health Awareness Month, we're featuring experienced providers like Wally, who are dedicated to their clients' mental health and wellbeing. "Mental health awareness is important to me because I have had personal experiences recovering from grief and loss," Wally said. "I enjoy being present, listening, and teaching my clients resiliency skills and strategies to often overcome many life challenges." 🧠 He wishes people knew there are solutions to almost everything and many great people are willing to help others in this world. His core facets of treatment are using client-centered, solution-focused, and cognitive behavioral therapies to empower clients to overcome their life challenges. "There is so much more than just listening and talking with people. Some days are very hard, but it is the recovery wins, where we get to see our clients overcome their adversity, that keep me in this profession." 👏 To practice self care, Wally said he tries to get outside and walk daily, read inspirational stories, practice mindfulness and prayer, and hike and kayak as much as possible. His most memorable moment at IPC was this past Veteran's Day, "when the IPC team offered this veteran an excellent employment opportunity to help others overcome mental health challenges. One of the most patriotic things a successful organization can do is to offer employment to a highly qualified veteran with varied life experiences." 💙 In the past, Wally has worked as an in-home family counselor, traveling school therapist serving students ages 4 to 18, an armed forces career and college counselor, and, most recently, as an online licensed clinical professional counselor. His advice to future professionals: "Research and training have shown me that one of the first steps an individual can make is to first take a quality career interest inventory or assessment." 📝 Thank you for sharing, Wally! We truly appreciate your presence! #mentalhealthawarenessmonth #providerinsights #mentalhealthmatters #providerspotlight #behavioralhealth #mentalhealth #counselor #counseling #lcpc #licensedcounselor #telehealth #mentalhealthcounselor #thankyou
