As we work to address the housing crisis, we need all hands on deck to create and implement innovative housing solutions that suit the needs of hard-working Michiganders. Employer-assisted and workforce housing are essential to the creation and preservation of attainable, affordable housing, the retention of top-talent in Michigan, and local economic development. Employers in Michigan are putting their mission into action to support the housing needs of their workforce.

A step in the right direction for affordable housing in our region! "The King County Council voted Tuesday to approve a plan to create a $1 billion Regional Workforce Housing Initiative, a bold step forward in addressing the region’s housing crisis. Introduced by Councilmember Girmay Zahilay, the Regional Workforce Housing Initiative directs the Executive to develop an implementation plan that utilizes the county’s excess debt capacity to partner with housing agencies and developers in creating permanently rent-restricted, multiple-unit housing for the region’s workforce – in other words, priced to be affordable to working class families." https://lnkd.in/gWAcCRPu

What does success in housing strategy looks like? “Shifting perspective.” Which is why we’re here for day 1 of the National Housing Conference to engage in conversation with the Honorable Housing Minister Sean Fraser. #affordablehousing
❗️”It would be a morale failure to accept the shortage of housing”, said the Honourable Minister Sean Fraser at day 1 of the National Housing Conference. “When we work together, we can find solutions to the national housing crisis.” Strong words of hope for a better future. #innovativesolutions #affordablehousing #nhc24

Housing is central to everyone’s lives, and with the UK government’s pledge to deliver 1.5 million homes over the next five years, the demand for skilled workers in our industry has never been higher. That's why we're excited to support The Housing Forum’s Futures Network and their "Build Your Future in Housing" campaign. This initiative is vital for widening diversity and addressing the skills shortage across construction, surveying, planning, retrofitting for energy efficiency, and housing management. With 225,000 extra workers needed in the next three years alone, there’s never been a better time to explore a career in this dynamic and growing sector. This campaign aims to connect school leavers, skilled workers, and employers to promote the range of careers and opportunities available. The Older People’s Housing Taskforce has called for a national long-term housing strategy to address the needs of an ageing population. Key recommendations include creating a joint unit between MHCLG and DHSC, focusing on housing design that is accessible, adaptable, and affordable for older people. The taskforce emphasises the importance of diverse housing options, age-friendly communities, and stronger planning policies to increase the availability of suitable housing. It also advocates for a 10% target for older people's housing in the Affordable Homes Programme and standardising definitions for “older people’s housing.” The report urges urgent action to meet the growing demand for retirement properties.

Our newly produced 10 Year Housing Plan has 4 sections. The public can leave comments here: https://lnkd.in/gC8f-z6G. Section 1 - Frames the crisis as a whole and HCD’s role within it. Section 2 - Explains the context of the crisis including the history of racist housing practices, the financing environment for housing, and the impact of government action. Section 3 - Discusses the methodology used to construct this plan, including the community input process and finally, Section 4 - Outlines the action plan proposed based on the framework of need and next steps. The plan can be found on our website: www.achcd.org/reports. Use the comment form or email your thoughts on the plan to HCD.Policy.Program@acgov.org. For years my work was in the downstream effect of the housing shortage, which has now turned to a full-fledged national crisis. The poignancy of this reality is now hitting many of us at all angles of our lives and not *just* in coastal cities. Housing prices and shortages are affecting places like Colleges (where I work now) as they recruit faculty, staff, and students. We need varied housing approaches, and for Housing Elements in each city to be developed and implemented. Politics are essential to see these processes developed, but politics can no longer be the impediment. #HousingNow #HousingFirst #BuildHousing #HigherEd
