Are you seeing a demand for ‘squiggly careers’ from your team? Squiggly careers (ones which include many changes in career or specialism) may even be a necessity in the ever-changing industry you operate in. We’ve worked with many businesses who use on the job training to power up their current team with skills to help them take a new direction in their career. This can help to retain talent as well as give people the opportunity to grow and develop with their current employer. Find out more about how apprenticeship training can support people development here: https://lnkd.in/eJpYfV-E.

#NationalCareersWeek I actually wrote this last year ... still just as relevant today as it was then so reposting again this National Careers Week ... For many, including myself, a careers journey is not a straight line, but rather one taking many twists and turns. My meandering journey has seen me in many job roles, giving me an enormous amount of experience and a plethora of transferable skills. Think about all your experiences, from working, volunteering, in your personal life, and think about all the valuable transferable skills you have gained. #careers #careerjourney #lifeskills #skills #transferableskills #experience Blackpool and The Fylde College

I had the privilege of attending the 'It Will Take a Village: Activating Denver’s Opportunity Talent, What is Your Role?' event hosted by Year Up & Ares Management Corporation this week & I walked away with new perspective, new ideas, new open doors to relationships with great partnership potential, new data, and new energy behind tackling the most pressing challenges in closing workforce gaps. Thank you to Charmaine Peart-HoSang, Laura Durbin, MBA, Shannon Johnson - SHRM-CP, Elisha Gilliam for bringing your market research on workforce development in #colorado forward, convening a dedicated local work group, and forging partnerships that pave the way for bridging talent <> employment through innovative pathways. Who's in this photo? The powerhouse panel representing workforce development organizations in #colorado with a wealth of diverse, boots-on-the-ground, ears-to-the-ground knowledge and experience including: 👉 Tony Anderson from Denver Economic Development & Opportunity 👉 Helen Young Hayes from ActivateWork 👉 TeRay Esquibel from EdMIUM 👉 Michelle Armstrong from Ares Management Corporation 👉 Brent Edwards from Mi Casa Resource Center 👉 Koli Jamerson from CareerWise Colorado 👉 Roger Low from Colorado Equitable Economic Mobility Initiative (CEEMI) - whew! See top of mind insights & trends for workforce dev. professionals working to close #skillgaps in Colorado, and nationwide: 💡#durableskills #essentialskills are in high demand - technical skill-building is available and often takes place on-the-job, but these skills and competencies (like communication, relationship-building, collaboration, leadership) are what job candidates and employers both need. 💡There are many orgs focused on changing the narrative & shifting the tide so that employers recognize educational avenues, #credentials, #microcredentials, and evidence-based learning outside of 2-year and 4-year university programs. (One speaker even mentioned systemic bigotry against job applicants who don't have a 2- or 4-year degree - this MUST change so that we are hiring with a skills-first approach). 💡There is a lot of work being done to prioritize State dollars and initiatives focused on closing employment gaps at the government and policy level. 💡Apprenticeships could hold the keys to supporting talent in building skills AND getting paid while learning-on-the-job. Many are looking to the Swedish model apprenticeships are a mainstream form of providing economic mobility through paid skill-building (and sometimes as an alternative to higher education). (CareerWise focuses here) 💡Workforce dev. orgs like Year Up, ActivateWork w/high job placement rates at higher wage levels may often provide a more direct path to employment than 2- or 4-year colleges, where grads gain the credential, yet still need access to supported communities, skill-building, and wrap-around programs like job placement matching, and professional development and mentorship programs.
