Among all the climate change solutions out there, reforestation is a key piece of the puzzle - but where does it fit in the grand scheme of things? A pivotal piece from One Tree Planted delves into how reforestation is a crucial weapon against climate change. Planting trees not only captures carbon dioxide but also restores biodiversity, stabilizes soils, and enhances water cycles, making it a multifaceted solution to environmental degradation. ATLAS-SSI proudly partners with One Tree Planted to advance these reforestation efforts. Each project we undertake contributes to planting trees, intertwining our core operations with actions that directly benefit the planet. Join us in supporting reforestation as a powerful climate action. Together with One Tree Planted, we're not just planting trees—we're planting hope for future generations. The #BlueCarbonCredits Market is a voluntary market that incentivizes the restoration and conservation of coastal ecosystems, such as mangroves, salt marshes, and seagrasses, which sequester significant amounts of carbon dioxide. A brief summary as given below : - #What: Blue Carbon Credits are certificates representing one ton of CO2 equivalent removed from the atmosphere through coastal ecosystem conservation and restoration. - #Why: Support conservation and restoration efforts, promote sustainable land use, and help combat climate change. - #How: Projects are verified and validated by independent auditors, ensuring additionality, permanence, and leakage avoidance. - #Benefits: Generates income for coastal communities, supports biodiversity, and contributes to global climate change mitigation efforts. - #Market size: Growing rapidly, with estimated annual transaction values reaching tens of millions of dollars. - #Key players: Project developers, governments, NGOs, and private companies buying credits to offset emissions. - #Standards and frameworks: Verra's Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and the International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance (ICROA) provide guidelines and certification. The #BlueCarbonCredits Market offers a unique opportunity to support coastal ecosystem conservation while addressing climate change. #carboncredits #carbonmarkets #ESG #Sustainability #bluecarbon #climatechange https://lnkd.in/gDrQXKEu

Why do forests matter? Forests cover one-third of the Earth's land mass, serving as critical pillars for both environmental health and human well-being. These ecosystems are not only the home to over half of the world’s terrestrial species but also play a pivotal role in combating climate change through their natural processes of carbon sequestration. Known as forest mitigation, this process is essential in reducing the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, thus averting more extreme global temperature rises. https://lnkd.in/gU_XBCZx.

Climate Week NYC is over and it’s clear that land has a big role to play in the climate transition. Here are our three key takeaways: 🌳 Halting deforestation and conversion is crucial 1️⃣ Land use change was indisputably recognised as a key portion of the greenhouse gas emissions pie for many companies. Halting deforestation and conversion in their supply chains is a key pathway for companies to meet their climate and nature targets, reduce their emissions burden, and comply with incoming regulation. 🚜 Land management is also a piece of the puzzle 2️⃣ Several talks at this year’s Climate Week NYC emphasised the role of addressing emissions from agricultural land management, including via insetting. These management improvements can foster better climate resilience and improved crop health while helping companies meet their commitments. 💵 A land use-driven climate transition needs broad support 3️⃣ Many companies are nervous about what to do, how to do it, and what it means if they fail. Whether through financial incentives, regulation, or through their investors, companies need more support to meet key climate goals. Climate change is a big problem that requires big solutions. The agri-food sector has a big part to play. We often say that forests are the lungs of the world. That is not disputed. But the real "guardians of the forests" continue to suffer as the triple planetary crisis of biodiversity loss, pollution and climate change continue to escalate. Forest communities are at the battle frontlines protecting forests for the 1.5-degree target, often performing this task free of charge. They should be compensated for keeping the planet's lungs functional. As we mark the International Day of Forests today and reflect on gains and setbacks, let's reaffirm our commitment to pursue win-win opportunities both for communities at the battle frontlines and for our planet.
