Kumbh Mela is one of the world's biggest public gatherings of devotees.
It is a religious pilgrimage celebrated four times over a 12-year cycle.
The Mela site rotates among the banks of four sacred Indian rivers:
a. Haridwar Uttarakhand (Ganga)
b. Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh (Shipra)
c. Nashik, Maharasthra (Godavari)
d. Prayagraj, Uttarpradesh (Sangam - Confluence of Ganga, Yamuna, and Sarasvati)
During Kumbh, millions of devotees visit these sites over a few weeks. More than 240 million people attended Kumbh in 2019.
An event of this magnitude presents multiple challenges, including crowd management, logistical issues, healthcare, infrastructure, emergency preparedness, security, and more.
