⚙️ Participation in Feasibility Study for Low-Carbon Aluminum Project in Finland ⚙️ Mitsubishi Corporation will conduct a feasibility study for the Arctial Low-Carbon Aluminium Project in Finland with Rio Tinto, Fortum, Finnish Industry Investment, and Vargas Holding. In addition, MC will contribute to the feasibility assessment based on its investment and management track record in the aluminium business and its knowledge gained through its global aluminium trading activities. The Project is a primary aluminium manufacturing project using CO2-free electricity and is the first new project in Europe in more than 30 years. 🌍 https://lnkd.in/edBA5HZh #Lowcarbon #Aluminium #RioTinto #Fortum #Tesi #Vargas #MitsubishiCorporation #MC

China has officially implemented a new mandatory standard, GB 1499.2-2024, for steel reinforcement in construction. This new regulation is set to boost demand for vanadium, particularly in the production of stronger steel via vanadium-nitrogen alloys. With vanadium consumption already at an all-time high, this is a strong signal of continued market growth for AMG Vanadium LLC as well. Not only does this development contribute to the expansion of the vanadium market, but it also helps to reduce CO2 emissions through a more efficient steel production. Vanadium also plays an important role at LIVA power management systems, where we focus on energy storage solutions that further accelerate the energy transition. A promising step forward for the vanadium industry and the broader goal of achieving net-zero emissions!

Spain-based steel producer Sidenor Group has announced that it will explore the feasibility of the electrification of key processes in steel production to reduce its dependence on natural gas, cut its carbon emissions and increase its energy efficiency. Accordingly, the Spanish steelmaker has joined Europe's CITADEL project, under which fossil combustion processes are aimed to be replaced with electric technologies. In particular, the project focuses on the electrification of critical processes in the production of liquid steel and has a great impact on the final quality of the product. These processes depend on natural gas. 👉 Read More: https://lnkd.in/grq8UW8j #steelexport #vietnamsteel #steelasia #hsg #steelsheet #steelpipe #plasticpipe #steelindustry #steelnews #worldsteelnews

“#Efuels set to power next ZEMBA tender, but supply challenges loom. “ October 3, 2024, - Sara Kosmajac “#Efuelpoweredcontainershipping services could be ready for commercial deployment by the year 2027, a new report by the #ZeroEmissionMaritimeBuyersAlliance (#ZEMBA) and the UK-based classification society Lloyd’s Register’s (LR) #MaritimeDecarbonisationHub has projected.” “As informed, the report, titled Availability of e-fuels and #efuelcapablevessels from 2027–2030, summarizes the findings from a request for information (RFI) that the two parties co-ran in May 2024. It had the goal of assessing the readiness of the #maritimeindustry to embrace e-fuels, such as #emethanol , highlighting both the potential for #emethanolpoweredships and the challenges posed by supply-demand mismatches.” “More specifically, the report focused on the implications of the RFI’s results for ZEMBA’s next tender, projected to be launched in early 2025, and how these findings relate to overarching trends in commercial deployment of e-fuels in the #maritimesector .” “As understood, LR and ZEMBA found ‘sufficient predicted supply’ of both e-methanol and #emethanolcapableships in the container segment for ZEMBA’s next tender to tap into, with a target set to purchase the environmental attributes associated with #efuelpoweredservices from 2027.” “The RFI also suggested that 391,000 metric tons of #heavyfueloilequivalent (#thFOe) of #eammonia , #emethane and #emethanolproduction could be expected by 2027 across a number of sectors, at which time RFI respondents believe there could be ‘166 #emethanecapablevessels , 80 e-methanol-capable vessels, and 22 #eammoniacapablevessels across all #shipping segments.’” https://lnkd.in/ewsQGMhm? McKinsey and Co's latest report shows the importance of copper across all industrial sectors associated with decarbonisation of our future energy supply
#CleanIndustrialDeal : which sectors are strategic for the EU? A key question during the hearing of Executive Vice-President-designate Stéphane Séjourné yesterday, and the next key battle for every industrial sector who wants to be recognised and supported. What has been mentioned? #steel #aluminium #chemistry #cleantechnologies #automotive #aeronautic #heatpumps #solar #wind #electrolysers #cables #batteries What is missing? #copper #copper #copper and other non-ferrous #metals such as #zinc and #nickel Is it too obvious? Somehow yes, copper is listed as strategic by the Critical Raw Materials Act (#CRMA) and is necessary across all #energytransition technologies, like steel and aluminium as nicely illustrated in the chart from McKinsey & Company below (based on analysis from the European Commission and the International Energy Agency (IEA)), but we must remind it constantly : COPPER IS STRATEGIC! Mr Séjourné said "without steel no wind turbines, no railways, no buildings". The same easily applies to copper. Without copper, no #windturbines, no #electricity, no #EVs, no #motors, no #heatpumps... the list is long! An EU Steel Action Plan is strongly promoted #steelplan4europe, let's remind that Ursula von der Leyen promised a "Steel and Metals Action Plan". Would measures supporting the steel sector automatically support other metals value chains, such as #copper? Is there a risk that the focus on saving the steel sector would leave non-ferrous metals aside? Please share your thoughts. My conviction: the Clean Industrial Deal must look at strategic net zero value chains from the #mines to the clean technologies. The whole copper value chain is strategic : #mining, #refining, #fabrication, #recycling. What do you think? International Copper Association Europe Eurometaux (European Metals Association)

📯 What's been happening in the world of CCS this week? Here's a newsflash of some headline developments that have caught our eye: 1. Heidelberg Materials is progressing with its newest #CCUS project in the Airvault cement plant, situated in the French New Aquitaine Region. The project will capture approximately 1 million tonnes of CO2 annually. 2. Axens announced that the DMX CCS project in the steel production plant of ArcelorMittal in Dunkirk is successfully operating. The overall carbon capture rate is exceeding 90% with a CO2 purity level at 99.5%. 3. LIBERTY Steel Group wins a contract to supply onshore and offshore CO2 pipelines for the CCS projects based in Teesside, UK. CO2 transportation facilities will help scale up CCS projects in the UK and support the country's transition to a more decarbonised economy. With these projects, it is clear that #CCS is starting to take off across Europe!
