I recently had a conversation with a local community college student who shared that she was juggling 3 jobs to make ends meet. This reminded me of my college days. As she discussed her graphic design, web design, and branding projects, it struck me that supporting students in pursuing their passions could be more beneficial than them working unrelated minimum wage jobs. I believe creating opportunities for students to work on projects aligned with their career aspirations is crucial. A recent article on placing college students in paid internships in New York showcased the mutual benefits of such collaborations. It's inspiring to see how these initiatives can help students kickstart their careers. Coco will be available to all in the future!” How can it be a beta test if you’re not in some way logging and learning from me? #Undisclosed #GenAi is almost always #datamining in sheep’s clothes. “Coco is an AI-powered tool specifically designed for students and young professionals on Handshake. Presented as a chatbot, Coco provides free and personalized career guidance, and is always ready to help! Coco can help with goal-setting, planning, career research, industry information, interview prep, and much more!” Except when it can’t; “Coco is an AI tool, and while it strives to provide accurate and helpful information, it might not always be perfect. It's always a good idea to double-check any advice or guidance you receive!“ Double check this information with who exactly, the staff you’ll replace with this tool? Handshake Go to their website on Academic Advising and it shows all human beings taking care of you in-person, not an Ai. For all the business owners that are eagerly trying to sign-up new grads to their “New Graduate Program,” I’ll just leave this here…. I first posted this infographic nearly two years ago, but the message is still the same. A gift box on their first day, a week of shadowing, and then ongoing supervision by an OT that was only a graduate themselves the previous year, is not a new grad program. If you’re calling it a “new grad program,” hopefully it looks something like this... It needs to have: - At least one hour of formal supervision each week - Daily ad hoc support - Opportunities for joint sessions with an experienced OT - In-house and external PD  - Reduced billable KPIs that increase gradually – they need extra non-billable time to use the supports listed above - Opportunity for the grad to say “no” when a referral is beyond their scope or ability If you say you’ve got all those things – great! Now be honest and think about if you can actually DELIVER those things! I’ve put lots of time and effort into supporting new grads to make the right choices for their employment, now it’s time for the employers to level-up their own performance.
